Of course, you can avoid the barons in M1 by just ignoring level secrets, and you can telefrag the Cyberdemon without a fight, but it's still pretty harsh.
Playing through Episode 4 with just the Project Brutality Deagle is a fun challenge.
*sigh*
Years later he even made a video playing those maps himself and admitting how abysmal the designs are.
It's hot hard on purpose.. it's just not properly designed.
The levels were not fun for me, 2 levels were extremely hard, level design was nothing special. I still have no idea what was the point of one secret in the first level to contain 5 barons of hell and nothing else than a NIN logo on the floor, it's not cool to kill those with so little ammo around. Yet some levels were super easy, and the last level was even more so, it started out good but in the end you could grab the invincibility and kill the boss, just like that. Not a fan of such approach.
At least they provided a free update for every existing Doom owners (and pirates).
It is also legit weird as one map was done by someone not even on the team (E4M7’s map being done by John Anderson aka Dr. Sleep, may he rest in peace).
