How do u equip the rifle in Brutal Doom?

As above. Just started playing and I can only equip the pistol and shotgun. Not sure what Im missing.

Normal (Vanilla) Brutal Doom doesn't have a pistol. Are you sure you loaded Brutal Doom Correctly?

Normally it's a case of scrolling with the wheel/using keys 1-9 to equip weapons.

You must of selected "classic" on the "class selection" screen when you started a new game, start and again and select "modern".

If that's not the case then baddude is correct and you don't have it installed right.

i just drag and drop into gz doom everytime, how do u actually install Brutal doom? xD

If you use zandronum the successor to gz and z doom, you can install it by placing it into the skins folder.

Then the question may be, have you installed gzdoom correctly?
I'll give you complete instructions for running brutal doom with gzdoom, just in case:

First, all the files from the gzdoom download must be extracted to the doom-> base folder.
After this, delete dosbox and rename the gzdoom executable to "dosbox"
Then, create a folder in the same "base" folder, and name it "Skins".
Finally, put the brutal doom file into the "Skins" folder you created. Rename its file extension to .wad. It should look like this in your skins folder:

brutalv20.wad

Now whenever you start doom through steam, it will start gzdoom with brutal doom. The main title screen should even have a banner for brutal doom. Select the "modern" option when you start a new game. You will immediately spawn with an assault rifle, as it replaces vanilla doom's pistol.


This method works with doom, doom ii, and final doom. Have fun.

Thanks for the replies. I have installed brutal doom (v.20) using the method Heidrocj stated. The Brutal Doom logo does appear upon start up. The start out weapon is the pistol but when shooting grunts they drop rifles which I pick up but still retain a pistol. I'll look out for the modern option upon starting a new game as that's where I maybe going wrong. I'll let you know later.
