Any sort of pre-90's WAD's are usually pretty similar to the feel of the vanilla maps.
I posted in an earlier thread all the WAD's I use:

Here you have screenshots for the wad, which fully replaces episode one till three:

And there is a fourth episode (Draft Excluder), released today on moddb.com:

I played both wads with Zandronum.
For Chocolate Doom just ConC.E.R.Ned. But I would not recommend it, as the moddb.com entry of Draft Excluder says, that both wads needs an limit removing engine.
Alien Vendetta is basically just a crazy difficult list of doom levels, jam packed with millions of enemys, these are VERY well designed levels, all of which its possible to complete and the whole thing is a chaotic frenzied blood bath of bullets and mayhem, this is only for the very hardest doom heads, this is aimed at the navy seals of doom players (this is why I wanted this exact wad so badly).
If someone could help me out?, I'll gladly e-mail you this wad if you'd like a copy.
Rok ard!. Steve
But if you use an source port like GZDoom, Zandronum, PrBoom, it should be easy to mount wads.
