No RTX/Ray tracing?
the fact that the "new source port" does not by default have or even support modern lighting is kinda a bummer...

This remaster still uses software rendering; ray tracing is an impossibility as it is currently designed, and frankly it'd be a colossal divergence from the original aesthetic, which is not exactly desirable for anything approaching a faithful take on DOOM.

Does even GZDoom support ray tracing? I thought you had to use some weird source port called RTXDoom or something with modified maps to get ray tracing (I assume they're modified since the clip I saw had a Civvie reference in it).

You have to be aware that RTX mod for Doom2 is not just a switch in options.

If you were impressed with Doom2 RTX mod you probably know that the game is almost entirely rebuilt by hand, if you look at files of the mod, you'll see that every texture was converted and tweaked in format that works with light (so some portions are shiny, some aren't).

Also Doom maps have no light sources, only sector brightness levels. These were also added manually, the whole thing took more time the original game was built.

Another example, if you try Quake 2 RTX you'll also see that it's got several times the size of original game for new textures and some new items that become new light sources.

In short, these mods aren't adding support, they are almost a whole new game, just built around old games' design

And last but not least, the rerelease is on consoles, which aren't all raytrace-capable.

GZDoom has its own dynamic lights similar to Quake's, they're defined item by item (torches, candles, light posts, player's plasma and enemy fireballs) and are compatible with many mods and map packs that don't replace said items. They aren't RTX, just radial glow but are also fun thing to enhance old game.

Right, I know that, but I have the feeling OP wouldn't be satisfied with that.
