Is doomguy a proper name for the protagonist?
Like doom was suppose to be the situation, like everyone was doomed. But doomguy seems like an odd choice for his name, considering. Does he even have a real name?
Oprindeligt skrevet af Freedoom Marine(True Doom Freak):
Benakenobi, perfectly 200% correct, i don't believe you knew that fact, Doomguy is not what you call the player marine at all, the marine is called the Space Marine or the UAC Marine as a nickname. Doomguy is only artificially made up nonsense by the online internet Doom community. The Space Marines real name in the PC canon Doom series was mentioned and released only once in the first ever Doom development interview on television in 1992 by Tom Hall as he went over his bit about the Doom Bible while playtesting Doom Knee Deep In The Dead right before its official release would come in 1993, which the space marines name is Dylan Flinders Petersen(Even despite using Dwayne Hicks or Michael Biehn regarding the space marines inspirations from Aliens). I do have a facebook page with lots of neat Doom stuff and information if you need anything further on any of it, https://www.facebook.com/jonathan.j.shearman

He's related to B.J. Blazkowicz and Cpt Keen.

Amazing, he actually got it right for a change.

Doomguy doesn't have a name and never has.

Not according to official licensed lore.
You sure do like refusing to read actual sources and just believing the utter nonsense that guy is spewing.

All I'm asking is what his name is
The one in the games doesn't have a name. Full stop.
and if some official novel says his name that's what it is especially if it's early lore. The halo games also had novels and the games embraced that lore.
The novels are entirely different canon from the games.

And you have the authority to say its non canon or is this an official statement from ID?

I guess you guys wanna pretend his is a disembodied clone, or an android that just sucks up health packs like some kinda machine? Basically doom is just shoot paper targets with no story, setting, lore, or anything else? Just pop pop demon dead? Well the novels tried to establish a story and I'm satisfied with the first name. Not like a frickin name even matters, And whatever the hell a standard name is, is better than doom guy, or doom slayer, or some other dumb as hell doom label.

Again: The novels are not canon to the games. They never were.

They tell their own story. A bad one.

Doomguy in the games does not and has never had a name.

pretty much so.
the lore is sometime in 22nd century the UAC is making experiments and mining radioactive minerals on moons of Mars, then one merry day evil hostile monsters teleport and overrun the base, and *you* arrive to try and counter the invasion

we don't disagree with you in the idea that a certain name is better than a guy/slayer. you don't have to take offense, it's just that one game is so darn simple

I prefer Doom guy over Doom slayer.

Same here.

Doom marine is also valid.
I prefer Doomslayer(Totally farout and fanataical) or The Doom Marine(Was what i always called the player soldier), i use Flynn Taggart and all the credible non canon identities for the PSX version only.

When you think about puzzling together the tidbit about relation to B.J. Blazcowizc and Stan Blazcowizc relation, its like their giving the UAC Space Marine " The Doomslayer " an identity that says it doesn't really exist and the player marine is still nameless and enigmatic.
Ikagura 18. apr. kl. 8:03
Doomslayer sounds too much like an OC's name...
Doom Slayer 29. apr. kl. 9:26
HIS NAME IS FLYNN TAGGART

Jesus Christ, not this again.
Doom Slayer, speaking of Flynn Taggart then, the Doom Marine you mention from the Novel series, based on the Classic Doom, who is a Catholic and against any false doctrine of any kind, im gonna give you your Doom Catholicism, and how much more realer can you get than the original study right from Egypt itself. The Doomguys name is not Flynn Taggart.
----------------------
The Red Marine(Followed in the Doom 64 intro), Doomslayer(DOOM Or Doomguy, only by John Romero), is an unamed marine, being nameless this way denotes to his identity be kept secret in mystery, is the player throughout the PC series.

The Green Marine, PSX Doomslayer(Or The Toughest Space Trooper Ever To Suck Vacuum), is theoretically unamed, figuring that can be seen is his relation to Stan Blazcowizc because they are both non canon to the original game franchise, the Marine in the Doom II mobile RPG, this presumes that PSX Doomslayers last name is Blazcowizc(Blazcowizc the III, Billy Blaze), where William came from, is because their is no Wolfenstein in the series(Only Quake II on PS1), so his name must be William because Wolfenstein obviously doesn't exist.

The Blue Marine, Freedoom Doomslayer(Or Freedoomguy), is the extra mysterious marine shown on the PSX Doom boxart with black hair with police uniform and a super shotgun, is Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon by Technos, these credits were given and promoted on the cover Commander Keen, which his name " Billy Blaze " is inspired from Billy Lee in Double Dragon, The Doomguy has very many inspirational figures to him, especially from pop culture, like Arnold Shwarzennager, Bruce Willis, Mister Rogers, and Michael Biehn, and for other game characters, the Doomslayer does take lots of inspiration from Ash in Evil Dead II, Billy&Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon, and Dutch Shaeffer in AVP and Predator. The Blue Marine is also the star of the whole Brutal Doom trend.

The Black Marines, Joan Dark and John Grimm, one is Classic Doom and the other is Doom III(Doom III is a bit non canon, doesn't involve with the original storyline or have the same elements, the Classic Doom revolves more around action as Doom III revolves more around horror, and the PSX Doom adventure and immersion, and the Doom reboot revolves heavily around science fiction) are the different Z-Sec USAF security police constable marines, the reason their specialized with the Doom Space Marines is their based on emphasis of Marines Reserves(Like 4th Armored Recon or Continental Marines like San Diego and Parris Island, but Continental Marines are not reserves), which involves the National Guard component(Note: National Guard under rules are deployable for space operations), since that involves the marines reserves with special forces, paramilitary, and police, thats where Z-Sec come in with the Doom Marines subjection with law enforcement.

More head canon nonsense.

Spare us a repeat of this trash.
