DOOM + DOOM II

Is doomguy a proper name for the protagonist?
Like doom was suppose to be the situation, like everyone was doomed. But doomguy seems like an odd choice for his name, considering. Does he even have a real name?

Benakenobi, perfectly 200% correct, i don't believe you knew that fact, Doomguy is not what you call the player marine at all, the marine is called the Space Marine or the UAC Marine as a nickname. Doomguy is only artificially made up nonsense by the online internet Doom community. The Space Marines real name in the PC canon Doom series was mentioned and released only once in the first ever Doom development interview on television in 1992 by Tom Hall as he went over his bit about the Doom Bible while playtesting Doom Knee Deep In The Dead right before its official release would come in 1993, which the space marines name is Dylan Flinders Petersen(Even despite using Dwayne Hicks or Michael Biehn regarding the space marines inspirations from Aliens). I do have a facebook page with lots of neat Doom stuff and information if you need anything further on any of it, https://www.facebook.com/jonathan.j.shearman

Dylan Flinders eh? Well if it's the first source that's his name then.
The only release mention of it was in Doom I's very first development interview right before its release in 1993, it had the whole team in it, and showed John Carmack working on a computer in his section, his table station(Cubicle, whatever they are called), and had various built in clips of John Romero, Sandy Petersen, and Adrian Carmack testing out Doom prototype patents, topped off with E1M1 and E1M2 demo's, the textures and design wasnt totally done either though, then in the area of the television development archive, right before the point where its right before the end, Tom Hall comes up after a stimulating change in thoughts and it heads to Tom Hall in front of a PC in a company room and tests out Doom, going over the functions of saving and loading games, and he goes over the Doom Marines real name and what it is and what it could be, and he experiments showing, oooh you could name him this or name him that, you could type in something silly and humorous, and then he decided to do it, which was intended for the dev television premier, he goes, lets name him, Dylan, Flinders, Petersen, and mysteriously says, this is his name and tells a bit how he made up that his father was a very hardworking man, and i'm gonna name me the marine, Dylan Flinders Petersen, and then saves his game, and then continues to talk about development stuff to end his presentation in the video, John Carmack i think is at the very end of the video to talk about things close up, as hes only seen at his work station in the highly windowed floor of ID Software at the beginning. So all the Doom community trash is a total retarded waste of time and thought, they obviously don't know jack diddlee.
Considering the majority of hall's stuff was thrown in the dumpster, claiming that's the character's name when it has been mentioned literally nowhere else is... questionable at best.
Correct, VERY CORRECT, Adrian Carmack used the same excuse as Bobby Prince did for the Metallica inspiration of E1M1's music theme, At Dooms Gate, Prince corrects that E1M1 was made by them to sound the way it does, as it sounds like Metallica No Remorse, he denies all inquisition of it being inspired by Metallica at all or any other of the resemblant picks over Metallica. The only way now to find out the space marines real name in the PC Doom, is information search AI's will find it, the only other way is to watch the early Doom dev interview archive from late 1992, i watched it on Youtube a long time ago in early 2000's-2005, it was briefly on Youtube from a single channel by someone who had it from a company method, or a rare collectors archive, or taped it perfectly with their camera disincluding their enviroment with it, im still trying ta search it down again on Youtube and other video networking databases to.
Exactly, in the modern games, it's Doom Slayer (with at least 1 Doomguy mention in Eternal), so any prior names kinda no longer matter, as it is the same guy in every game (besides 3 for the most part).
If it's not in official documentation for the game in ANY regard, it's not the name.

Prince's music has nothing to do with the matter.

It's still a very iffy source regardless as any real references to Hall's Doom Bible (and that info) appear nowhere in the games. The closet we kinda have is John Romero in 2020 saying his name is Doom Guy (I know that's not official either, but it's "something")

Dooms first dev interview was official documentation, and i just used that as a compared example.

Doomslayer is not the classic Doom Space Marine either, not Stan Blazcowizc or Buddy Dacote from the Doom Bible for Alpha Doom(Unreleased), NOT FLYNN TAGGART from the Doom novel series(The novel is a spinoff and is supposedly associated with the PSX Doom), Neo Doom's(Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are a totally different reboot as well as the Dark Ages, which are satirical, yes, Dylan Petersen is included as an easter egg in it, a cruddy dry withered photo with his family with his green woodland combat fatigue on, Neo Doom has nothing to do with the classic storyline or even Doom III either) Doomslayers real identities are considered left totally mysterious, the first is a spaniard guy with a crew cut and the second looks like Neal Armstrong(Whether this has inspiring qualities, such as reference with space exploration, science fiction, and the Doom Space Marines subjection to the Leo zodiac sign, still has time to be discovered). Iv'e already called out the nimwittted nonsense in the Doom comunnity that the Doomslayer is John Grimm or John Kane from Doom 3, which the Doom 3 player marines name in the first prequel is Elianore Quasar(Was released by Todd Hollenshed in a Doom 3 development interview on television), and John Kane is from the Lost Mission(Was cancelled as a Doom novel and made for the third installment to Doom 3). We still have time until we learn more and more about the two Doomslayers.
No they are not, Doom 64 (2020)'s Lost Levels makes explicit reference to one of Doom 2016's Slayer Testament's and 2016 later reveals Doomguy was trapped by the Demons after he decided to stay where he was after he defeated the Mother Demon
Again: If it isn't in the released documentation for the actual games and not the concept stuff of hall's that was thrown in the garbage:

It's not the name.
And, as AWMonopolyMan pointed out: The addition of lost levels has spelled out that with the exception of the ones from doom 3: They're all the same guy.
AWMonopolyman, The Doomguy is not official correct, John Romero took the nickname from the internet Doom communities nonsense and tried to make something out of it, and to be logical, you shouldn't trust a formerly fired company patron anyways that almost ruined the production of Quake. If you do further accurate inspection, you even tell me ONCE, where Doomguy is mentioned as Petersens nickname in any official archive or patent made by the company...RIGHT! It all says Space Marine, UAC Marine, or soldier, or just marine. Right, and their you go, using your noodle, you will get a eureka sooner or later.

So where's the official documentation saying his name is Dylan that isn't just someone who was fired saying something?

Because Hall didn't even last through Doom 1's production.

Considering the name Doom Guy is referenced as a potential name in Eternal by a news broadcaster, that's more than whatever name you were trying to use that's not referenced in any of the games.
