DOOM + DOOM II

DOOM + DOOM II

Is doomguy a proper name for the protagonist?
Like doom was suppose to be the situation, like everyone was doomed. But doomguy seems like an odd choice for his name, considering. Does he even have a real name?

Benakenobi, perfectly 200% correct, i don't believe you knew that fact, Doomguy is not what you call the player marine at all, the marine is called the Space Marine or the UAC Marine as a nickname. Doomguy is only artificially made up nonsense by the online internet Doom community. The Space Marines real name in the PC canon Doom series was mentioned and released only once in the first ever Doom development interview on television in 1992 by Tom Hall as he went over his bit about the Doom Bible while playtesting Doom Knee Deep In The Dead right before its official release would come in 1993, which the space marines name is Dylan Flinders Petersen(Even despite using Dwayne Hicks or Michael Biehn regarding the space marines inspirations from Aliens). I do have a facebook page with lots of neat Doom stuff and information if you need anything further on any of it, https://www.facebook.com/jonathan.j.shearman

The "doomguy" is just community's convenient handle for game protagonist, the game's manual refers to player as "you" (are a space marine, one of the Earth's toughest...)

Tom Hall of id Software began writing doom story around 2 female marines and 2 male marines: Lorelei Chen, Thi Barrett, John "Petro" Pietrovich, Dimitri Paramo - but these were scrapped and never appear in Doom 1/2/Final/64/etcetera

The doom books invented a name Flynn Taggart, this was later made into easter egg in Doom Eternal, but player character there is never addressed by that name, just by Doomslayer

Lorelei and Thi would appear as names in Tom's next game, Rise of The Triad, but I'm not sure if they were the same characters as their DOOM counterparts.

According to John Romero and Tom Hall, he's a member of the Blazkowicz family, although that doesn't definitively mean he's using the name. The Doom II RPG's Doomguy was called "Stan Blazkowicz", although this could well be a separate character.

I like the name "Doom", as was given in his Quake III appearance.

If I can recall, he was just Doomguy. However some time later after DOOM 2, he was called Doom Slayer instead. My apology if I got some information wrong. I suggest you look up on Google.
We new nothing about the protagonist originally, he was just "the guy from Doom", so Doomguy is just what people called him. It caught on enough that even the newer doom games still call him that occasionally.

Though to be honest I prefer saying "Doom Marine"... sounds a bit less cringe and more like an official title he has.

Doomslayer sounds pretty cool as it implies he's fighting the doom, and not actual doom.

I think he'd be a pretty cool dude in real life, bunnies make great pets.

SNES' version TV add has the coolest depiction of him imo

EDIT: also, the PSX version and official comic show him in his full, Bruce Willis esque look.
