How long does it take to get all achievements?
Played through DOOM I and II once a long time ago. Now wanna return for achievements.

I know i need to finish both of them again and other expansions too. Difficulty doesn't matter for that, but I wanna try Ultra Violence for the 1st time. Most of achievements are fun small challenges, so most of them shouldn't take long. Some are actually hard, like finishing 8 levels in a row without dying on Nightmare, so there will be a grind.

How long would it take to finish? Without cheating, of course (i hope)

So it depends what in game goals you give to yourself. Is it just about the destination of legit getting the achievements, or also the journey of what happens during that.

I found what worked for me was balancing a dull wad, and using a better wad as a palette cleanser. TNT and Master levels are the worst. I did Legacy of Rust blind and that was quite something! The difficulty jumps up in UV but I did get through.

Pretty much just a couple minutes.
Whoever implemented the achievements apparently thought it shouldn't matter how you got the achievements; cheats do not block you from getting any of them, and "beat X episode/campaign" cheevos only check if you beat the final level rather than the whole thing so level skip is kosher.

Now, if you wanted to take them seriously though, that's a different matter and one I'm not equipped to answer.

Yeah, i heard about it. I like watching achievement videos for diffeerent games (weird kink, i know) and DOOM I+II only have 100% IN 1 HOUR WITH CHEATS.
40-100 hrs without cheats and playing in a legit, normal way?

If you know what you are doing (pro player) probably a lot less.
I'm not a pro player though. It's my first experience with DOOM franchise.

So far, I played this game for 80hrs and have 81% achievements.

I'm playing it without any cheats (I don't like cheats) on Hurt Me Plenty (normal) diificulty most of the time.
Doom 1 and 2 base game campaigns were relatively easy and quick.
Plutonia and Legacy of Rust are long and hard though.
Few times I switched to Ultra Violence to get few UV related achievements.

"Untouchable" achievements seems very hard (that's the one you mentioned) and I will probably just ignore it,

I don't really need 100% and cheating is just not fun for me.

Technically, you can start and finish only final level of each DLC and you will still get achievement for finishing entire DLC. But that's like half cheating basically.
And that will not get you that "Untouchable" achievement.

In these 81 hrs I finished every DOOM 1/2 and every official DLC besides Plutonia and Legacy of Rust.
Plutonia is designed in a way to break you. Literally. Only for veterans or experienced players.
Legacy of Rust has like 500 enemies spam on normal. I can't imagine how hard it is on Ultra Violence.
I will probably finish them too one day, but for now I need a break from Doom.

Thanks a lot. Wow, i underestimated legth of expansions. Quake 1 had a couple, but overall it took only 15 hours for a playthrough (not 100%, for that i hust need to replay it on Nightmare). 100 hours, you say. I'll keep that in mind.

Finishing only the last level for achievements IS cheating for me. I've finished DOOM I and II campaigns already, so I might skip them if I get bored (which is unlikely)

"Untouchable" achivement is the only one i'm considering cheating with, but not sure yet. Here's a tip i found: save a lot. Loading doesn't influence the achievement, if you reload before death. If you die, then start over.

Took me around 55 hours with guides tho. Without guides probably up to 100 hours.

Why would you cheat for the achievement? IF you cheat, then there is literally no reason to farm the achievements anyway.

Yeah, Quake 1 is shorter. I took me 25 hrs to beat it on normal (all 4 episodes) and I got 54% achievements since most of them require Nightmare difficulty or finding secrets/secret levels.

Btw. since you mentioned that you played Doom 1/2 "a long time ago"; quick summary for you.

Expansions with new Steam achievements:

1995 Master Levels
1996 Plutonia
1996 TNT
2010 No Rest for the Living
2019 Sigil
2024 Legacy of Rust

They are of course already included in the Doom 1+2 pack and you can easily run them from the game menu.

Also. there are like dozens of mods/wads worth to play (for example Sigil 2 also from Romero) even if they don't have achievements.
You can quickly download them from the game menu, you no longer need to download wads manually.

And indeed, Doom expansions are longer than base game campaigns.
At least of most of them.
Plutonia has 32 levels, Master Levels 21, but some of them are very long (30 minutes each if you know what to do, 1 hour+ if not).
Sigil has only 9, but they are a pleasure to play, but that's not suprising since they were made by Romero himself back in 2019.

And as Wehzy said; cheating is just not fun. Just play the game in a normal way, it's worth it.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I won't cheat unless necessary. I like going for achievements to prolong my stay within the game, so i know some are just excruciating time wasters. If this achievement is the unfun kind of hard, i might have to find another way. That tip should be enough help though. DOOM 2016 and ETERNAL are best for me on Nightamre, so DOOM I+II shouldn't be too much of a problem. i hope...
