Doomsday Engine on Steam
A long time ago there was a thread I found on here to set up your files so that when you launched Ultimate Doom from Steam it opened it up in the Doomsday engine. It involved copying and pasting certain files from the Doomsday/Snowberry files into certain places in the Steam files for the game. It worked really great. Does anyone know what I am talking about or how to do it? I have forgotten and can't get it to work.

I strongly doubt.

I found a way by myself: copying all directory of doomsday (bin, snowberry, etc) in the Hexen directory (SteamApps/Common/Hexen). Copying all files from "bin" to "base", deleting dosbox and renaming "doomsday" to "dosbox". The last thing to do is to copy the HEXEN.WAD file in the Hexen/data folder....now when you press "Play" from steam you will play hexen with the doomsday, steam overlay and everything :)

I know that some files/directory of the doomsday are not necessary doing this, but its just easier to copy everything.

I found it, this was it.

Bugsday Engine sucks. :p

Yishai, why? It runs DOOM 2 very well (I haven't tried other games). And it is really easy to run it from Steam (as a Steam game). The only thing that is broken is the Steam overlay. Can't make screenshots...

Because there are several superior alternatives. Like GZDoom.

Exactly, doomsday is outdated, buggy, unoptimized, and doesn't have the capabilities of gzdoom.

and you can intigrate gzdoom into steam the same way.

Just have tried GZDoom. Looks more like vanilla DOOM but with high resolutions. BTW, latest DoomsDay build is dated Dec 01, 2015 - you say, outdated? But I don't know yet which version I will play, liked both of them. Thanks guys, now I have a choice.

Well, keep gzdoom around for if you EVER want to try mods...because its pretty much cutting edge for that.

Mumble. They have updated Doomsday engine since. It is far beyond that GZDoom crap. Keep yourself updated on Doomsday BEFORE you crash talks it.

I watched a recent video and it still looks like a total piece of sh!t. It turns DOOM into something it's not. The original sprites look good and fit the overall aesthetic whereas these 3D models look like absolute dog sh!t and don't fit the game at all.

DOOM is not "modern" nor is it meant to be, and trying to force it into that mould just results in a contorted abomination like Doomsday Engine.

PC gaming is about options - if you don't like 3D stuff in Doom, that's fine, but people are free to mod the game any way they want.

Doomsday Engine is just another source port/engine and has it's upsides and downsides. We shouldn't really paint things in such a black and white manner as it's not constructive or beneficial to Doom community.

Just my 2 cents.

Yes, for sure. I have nothing against Doomsday or any other source port existing. I just expressed my opinion and why I disagree with the post I replied to. Granted, I could've been less harsh about it, but the tone was provoked by the sourness of that post—the fact that it called GZDoom "crap", which it absolutely is not.

The fact that we have so many options and that DOOM is so well supported and liked even today is a thing to celebrate. If someone likes Doomday Engine, more power to them.

what video. try using it and install the mods it reccomends. I myself have done, but one thing. DONT INSTALL SKYBOX 1. do the rest and it should be well.

WHY ARE YOU USING DOOMSDAY LMAO
Ikagura Jun 23, 2019 @ 2:04pm
The only Doomsday build I'm using is the 1.8.6 from 2005

But for the "modern" Doom experience (aka being compatible with almost every mod made currently) GZDoom is the best choice...

As for me I'll stick with Crispy Doom for a while
