DOOM + DOOM II

So, been trying to get all the DOOM old school games up and running...and all of them fail I have been looking up mean on Google and such to get it to work, but I am more wondering is this an issue on Steam's end? The little pre-download info pops up and mentions that the file size for this games is like...20-40 MB...but when I acutally download them the Download screen says they are more like...8-10 MB.

Is Steam just not delivering all the files and that is why they are not working or what?

I don't know what versions of the Doom games Steam uses, but I bought the collector's edition years ago back in 2001 which contains Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and Final Doom, and the installation directory file size is roughly 70 megabytes total for all 3 games. Minus new stuff that was added to make the sizes bigger (111 megabytes totatl) Considering both Doom and Doom 2 came on a few floppy disks each (I think, if I recall waaaay back, that Doom 2 was about 8 floppies. Don't qoute me on that one.) Where as Ultimate Doom for Windows 95 came on a single floppy disk packaged in a cd-jewel case.

Edit: Baring any files added by steam (Like Dosbox files) the directory size for the games should be like this:
Ultimate Doom - 12.8 mb
Doom II - 14.9 mb
Final Doom - 35 mb (Including Plutonia and TNT .wad files)

The version of DOSBox packed with Steam Doom has issues running on Windows 8 for some reason. I recommend a source port.
I will get one of those mod systems for it so I can have it running nice and fine for my like I had my old Vista system working with ZDoom or Chocolate Doom with better resolution and keyboard and Mouse support. Then run it through Steam like I did before Haha.

Okay, that seems...more reasonable. The Download info states them at Doom II is 8.7 MB and Master Levels is like 10 MB. It real obnoxious you pay for these games and Steam has them up here with the express purpose to zone in on this nolstalgia gaming and then does very little to actually keep things up to date and actually playable for the newer OS....

i would use a modern doom engine to run the like andronum or gzdoom
That is what I got, have it all set back up with Brutal DOOM and all running fine. A pain to install Zandronum in EVERY folder...but they all work great now.

No problems running Doom out of the Steam box on Windows 10 Professional. Should as easy on Windows 8 as on Windows 10.
I have a Mac with Windows 8 installed on it. Running DOOM unmodded right from Steam does not work.

Anesthetize, try this: Download PRBoom for Mac from prboom.sourceforge.net. Now Copy it to the Applications folder and run it. Select from the menu, Tools > Show Game Folder. Copy all your WADS to this folder. Use Drag and drop; drag from the desktop into the PrBoom Folder
