For gameplay, I prefer the original.
If I'm feeling really vanilla, there's nothing wrong with the original midi: they are also neat tributes to metal. My biggest issue is that those blues-y chord progressions are bit too overused, but that's not a huge deal.
However, If I'm playing modded classic Doom like Project Brutality, the Andrew Hulshult remixes are insanely good. The new Doom II tracks are especially awesome modern interpretations, like I'm shocked how well Between Levels got remixed, since IMO the original track was kinda goofy.
Jokes aside I prefer when it sounds more "videogamey" if you understand.
