OST for Legacy of Rust doesn't suit the game
I feel like I'm playing Sonic for Sega. The developers are generally aware that midi tracks for doom are written in guitar pro and not in some chiptune tracker for more metal sound?

And in general the addon turned out to be wrong. In the worst traditions of game design by John Romero. It's a mistake that this addon is praised rather than criticized.

Instead of letting the player have fun running and shooting, drowning in a bloody rush, we are faced with labyrinths, lack of ammo, secrets with lunar logic and and the respawn of enemies behind back in small room where you close doors. Its so cheap.

I understand that the developers wanted to break through the ceiling, but instead of quality they switched to quantity.

Since you have given yourself the freedom to use non-default assets, it would be better to follow the path of a variety of scripts, as it was in Doom16 Snapmap. And so you just made a labyrinth, not a shooter.

Agree on the music. Game design wise, I just decided that I'll get back to it when I will feel like I want to struggle a lot.

No, its not wise. In russian language we have good word for it: "Stuffy". Whose attributes I described above.

And your reluctance to play this directly says that such a design does not work. You just don’t want to admit to yourself that complex structure doesn’t mean good.

Nothing depends on your skill. You just have to routinely poke and repeat the same thing until you just stupidly learn the map, the location of enemies and their respawn. Like a rat in a maze.

A shooter should challenge reflexes, not the patience of repeating the same thing.

And the lack of music in the setting only emphasizes that the developers didn’t quite understand what they were doing.

Nailed this.
The rest, eh whatever. Pretty sure I heard some Duke Nukem in one of the tracks tho

I think is just E-minor-phrygian metal standart scale.

This might sound strange, but when you change the music option to "FM Synthesizer" the music in Legacy of Rust really sounds a /LOT/ better. Ironically, an FM synth is basically what the Sega Genesis used. Anyways, it made the music a lot more tolerable for me.

Better sound not mean that it suit the game.

I went from wanting to turn the music off, to actually enjoying it. If that's not good enough for you, whatever.

It doesn't make the levels any less frustrating either way.

No, not "whatever". This studios will make games in future and if they dont understand what is bad - there will bad games too. Hello Indiana Jones.

Nice job deleting the context from their post to make them sound dumber and more hostile.

Also, are you saying the decisions of a composer at Nightdive represent the decisions being made on Bethesda's Indiana Jones game, or are you saying that DOOM or Nightdive could get their own Kingdom of the Crystal Skull if we aren't careful?

Either interpretation seems kinda dumb to me.

Well... yeah.
Machine Studios: Great Wolfenstein 1 and controversial W2.
Id: Great doom16 and controversial moba-eternal.
Nighdive: controversial system shock remake.

They didn't hire a professional composer for the soundtrack, instead, one of the developers at Nightdive had some musical background and decided to give it a shot.. they let him do it.

DOOM Eternal does seem a bit divisive (I suspect mostly because people are bad at games, but it's not like I played it), though the other two...
I haven't played either game, but New Colossus seemed to be generally well-received; it's not as if I didn't see some of the complaints you're likely alluding to but I'm unconvinced that, to put it bluntly, the game actually had a woke issue. Or maybe it does, I don't know, but point is I hadn't heard much that was convincing. Frankly Youngblood may've proven your point better based on how much I've heard it trashed, lol.

As for System Shock, there is literally only one person I've heard talk about it, but he's a huge SS nerd and he loves the remake, and he's hardly afraid to be critical. So...

Well, that explains a lot.

Few people here supported me and this means that the music really doesn’t suit the game.

The experiment obviously failed. Not as something bad. Without experiments, there will be nothing new, as well as new talented composers. It’s just that the first pancake came out lumpy here.

After all, this is a free add-on, albeit canonical for the cult game.
