In eternal it was confirmed that they are the same character
That's the Doom Marine not Marine but Doom Marine and yes totally different protagonist which actually someone mentioned that Doom Marine faced off the Doom Slayer and died from the Doom Slayer it's those latest two DLCs in Doom Eternal. I don't know if it was confirmed but yeah info.
I just call the original Doom Guy "The Doom Slayer Guy" since well lore and all.
Agreed.
In the same way that Classic and Modern Sonic are basically the same character they still are separate designs (and I prefer the former).
The idea of a lone marine surviving Hell and back is more badass than a demigod to me.
Doom Guy
- Doom 93/95/Ultimate
- Doom II
- Doom 64 (Secret Ending is literally the plot to the backlore of Doom 2016 with his arrival into the Demon Dimension)
Doom Slayer
- Doom 2016 takes place after the Secret Portal Ending of Doom 64. The lore found throughout 2016 confirms this is Doomguy and that he was subject to God-like Enhancement.
- Doom Eternal fills more lore, showing a video clip of Doomguy being found and enslaved. They indicate he was a lone man, that came through one of the demons portals, with a vindication to slaughter demons. Even shows him looking exactly the same as the Doom Marine on the cover of Ultimate Doom; scratches across the abs and everything.
Final Doom (Plutonia Experiment & TNT Evilution) are not story canon but considered filler episodes/levels to DooM II and Dommguys journey.
Doom 3 is not canon to the Doom Guy timeline. The dates of events conflict with the rest of the lore.
Quake Champions even provided an Easter Egg when they added the Doom Slayer to the roster, the rabbit foot trinket had the name Daisy; which was the name of Doom guys Rabbit in at the end of Ultimate Doom Episode 4.
Doom Eternal continued the easter egg Rabbit reference with random locations you can find a Rabbit in the background.
The Doom Games have more story than your Souls. The Doom Books are not canon tot he games story; but an alternate universe giving Doom Guy / Doom Marine the name Flynn Taggart.
The Lore of Doom games goes all the way back to Wolfenstein 3D (not the Atari Wolfenstein). So its the [id] lore. Wolfenstein, Commander Keen, Doom and Quake are all linked in the same Universe and Multiverse.
BJ Blazkowicz is the great great Grandfather of Doom Guy.
BJ is the grandfather of Commander Keen.
You really dont understand the lore, do you?
Chris Farley huh? God rest his soul.
