ReNight - A KEX Sourceport Local Wad Manager
Hey Doomers,

I’ve been messing around with the new KEX sourceport from Nightdive and found it surprisingly enjoyable.

One thing that kept bugging me, though, was the hassle of managing local WADs. Sure, Nightdive improved the mod browser, but loading personal mods is still clunky. Moving WADs around, creating duplicates, and using command-line arguments just felt extraneous on this 'modern-feel' port.
And uploading other people's mods to the browser is not my thing. So, I put together a little tool to simplify this—ReNightdive Wad Manager.

There's a Windows and Linux version ready to go.

What’s ReNight ?

It’s an cross-platform open-source, Python-based mod manager for the KEX sourceport that helps you import and organize WADs. No more copy-pasting WADs into arbitrary folders or cluttering your drive with duplicate files. It uses symbolic links to save space but can duplicate files if needed.

Here’s the download if you’re interested: https://github.com/Retzilience/ReNight

Key Features

  • Folder Selection: Choose where the game reads your mods and where your WADs are stored.
  • Symbolic Link Option: Option to save space by creating symlinks instead of copying mods.
  • Batch Import: Load multiple WADs at once.
  • Console Output: See what’s happening in real-time.
  • Mod Management: Cleanly organized mod list with prefixes indicating status:
    • (SL) - symlinked mods
    • (CPY) - mods in both Nightdive and PWAD folders
    • (ONL) - mods only in Nightdive’s folder.

Quick Setup

For Windows users, grab the .zip file from the releases page, unzip it, and you’re ready to go. Linux users—there’s now a tar.gz file, but note that finding the Nightdive folder can be tricky with Steam Proton. If you're stuck, try launching the game, go to Mods -> Play -> Open Local Mod Folder to locate it.

It’s a small, humble project that hopefully makes things smoother for those who enjoy the KEX sourceport. Any feedback or bug reports are welcome. Thanks,

love, rip and tear

Make it a guide on steam. It's very good!
