I already tried three different versions of Proton a few days ago after I initially ran into this problem.
I didn't remember which ones exactly, so I just went to try a few more, and unexpectedly got the auto-login to work under Proton Experimental.

Thank you! This was quite the ordeal, and I didn't expect the fix to be this simple. I'm gonna be playing BTSX now, haha :MHRISE_Felyne:

freezes on the GOG version too can't login and to use gzdoom you need the doom2.wad but this version only has one doom.wad. so look like no modding for us? :lunar2019scowlingpig:

If there's no doom 2 wad, you downloaded unity doom, not doom+doom ii.

To solve the login problem, go to Bethesda.net, click on your user name, click Linked Accounts. Link your Steam account. Done.

That didn't solve it for me, but switching to Proton Experimental did.

So i've managed to finally connect to Bethesda.net and be able to play with mods on PC ( on Steam ). I had to go to Bethesda site and connect to my account, then link it to my Steam account. I'm gonna leave this here, maybe it'll help someone in the future 👍🏻.

so, without Bethesda.net account multiplayer is just. no longer available? I have a similar issue, tried to play with a friend but game said "one or more accounts failed to sign into multiplayer" when i tried to start an online multiplayer game. his other friend (who also doesn't have bethesda.net account) can connect just fine. I'm not on Steam Deck, I'm on PC, Win10.
(minor edit but) multiplayer used to work just fine with this friend, we played coop through Doom 1 at launch of this version.
