Enough with the issues. What is your opinion on "Legacy of Rust"?
It's pretty tiring to see so many complaints, issues, bugs* and what-not, so... What do you folks think about the new content? It's worthy of being an official campaign? Would you change something?

I honestly just started it (currently suffering on the second map lol), but so far I'm diggin' the "Ghouls". They're really annoying, but it fits very well considering their origins as old concepts for the Lost Souls.

One thing I particularly don't like (and that also happens in Quake and Quake 2's remasters) is that the new episodes seems to follow the same design philosofy: big levels, enormous enemy count, throw in some cut content, a portal and call it a day. It can get a little old by the end, but I'll try to keep an open mind.

Any of you already completed it?

DISCLAIMER:
Talking about bugs, technical issues and other related stuff is totally fine and expected (otherwise how those would be adressed?), but I made this thread to deviate the attention from people nitpicking every minor/meaningless detail like the new name, GZDoom being better, no Brutal Doom, etc. That sort of negativity can be contagious if you let it spread.

I have no idea what to do. I made it into phase where eyebutton open the two doors with two large groups, flamethrowers which is OK, problem is that second horde is about 20 archviles. WTF to do in here? They are too many, they are quick, theres minimum space to cover and those guys can of course revive fallen flamethrowers and btw we are fighting in arena where is at least 80 previously killed flamethrowing enemies. That's where I gave up, but my guess is that the mapmaker wants you to cause an infight between the Vassagos and the Arch-Viles. Then """""simply"""" run like hell to the next objective while trying to stay alive.

Minor spoiler: the next room is pure bullsh*t lol.
Yeah, thats what i thought too. But only few of them is fighting each other, the rest of archvilles is hunting me hard. Spectacular, indeed, but mapmaker obviously forgot there something or maybe hes one of those hardcore nightmare mode sprinters. Who knows.

I have a theory, mapmaker accidently changed immortality powerup for megasphere and let it be. ;-§)

Haven't finished it yet, but honestly I'm tickled pink with all the effort that went into implementing alpha/beta Doom content. I am an absolute cuck for Nightdive Studios and hope they keep doing the lord's work. I mean, jesus, a Po'ed remaster? They're going above and beyond with archival efforts with never letting good old stuff die.
Addendum: okay, I mean Po'ed was terrible on the PlayStation way back, but I was a kid and didn't know any better. Seeing them crusty textures and bizarre creature designs at high framerates is all that matters now

To be fair I shouldn't have included the word "bugs" because it's important to talk about them. I was refering to the many threads going crazy about the new name, no free aim, GZDoom being better, Doom (PSX) not being included, etc, etc... And that sort of negativity makes everything looks like trash if you let it, so I decided to make this thread to focus the atention elsewhere.

That could be very much possible now that you mention it haha. I'd like to believe that he was rushed in order to release this update during the Quake-Con and it's possibly that an update is being worked on.

In the mean time I definitely don't recommend Legacy of Rust on Ultra Violence to anyone else lol.

Dude, take it easy lol. I clearly said that I didn't mean to dismiss bugs, technical issues and what-not but the endless nitpicks from some folks (which coincidentally didn't show up here).

That still nothing i guess, try Sigil II on UV to see really hard campaign.

Yesterday i tried Sigil 2 for first time on ultra violence. I expected similar difficulty as in Sigil, but I was very wrong, Sigil II is the Dark Souls of Doom! Romero must be S atan!

I died and died and died, few hours of neverending dying every few seconds, just in first level. Dsign is Similar to original Sigil, that means almost no first aids, minimum of ammo, low amount of enemies, but on very annoying positions wheres not so easy to force kill each other and chance to fall into lava almost everywhere. But Much more difficult with heavily hidden keys and very unclear where you have to go, I still cant realise where the hell I must go in second level. Insane.

I think overall I'd give the new episode a 3 out of 5. The levels are all pretty decent , with the exception of some of Xaser's maps being irritating and overstaying their welcome. My biggest issue is that the whole episode feels like a doomworld mixed bag community project, and nothing like an official episode. One map can be a low monstercount hell fortress and the next can suddenly be a highly detailed and very open tech base with upwards of 500 monsters.

I think it was alright, though I feel like it doesn't capture the original DOOM or DOOM II's charm as much as something like Sigil or even No Rest for the Living does. It feels like, and I believe someone already made this comparison, a community-made map pack. Not that that's a bad thing, and I expected things to be a little bit up-to-standard when it came to the new episode, I just felt off. Also, the flames from the new enemies and the new weapon have the weirdest splash damage, you can't even visualize how it would work.

Overall, it's definitely not a bad episode, but I think in terms of it being an episode released 30 years after DOOM II, it's kind of a disappointment.

I thought it was easy, Pistol started / no saved the whole way. Then again, I've been playing tons of wads like Sunder, Abandon, Combat Shock, etc. Those wads really jack up your skills. Abandon is hard as hell though. I get smoked on every single map without saving.

How did you do "The Coiled City"?

That was the map where I lose my progress and had to pistol start, but couldn't in the end. The Vassagos blocking the bridges paired with the lack of ammo was just too much for me :beginners:

Lots and lots of infighting. Vassagos are great for starting monster fights. They'll get entire rooms pissed off at them and will do a lot of the work for you.
