How are you guys enjoying the new expansion? Personally, for me its peak level design, but E1M6 can go screw itself. Its a horrible level with horrible ammo economy, designed to be genuinely unfun. I beat it by avoiding every monster when possible on UV. I wonder how you feel.

You shall play that level on UV or higher, using simply a pistol.
I picture a wizard in a flowing robe made entirely out of the FIREBLU texture casting this as a magic spell.

The first episode all over is Great, I finished it now on Hurt me plenty and is quite difficult atleast for me, had to save a few times.....
Though E1M6 can go screw itself, is just an annoying level with poor ammo economy
All fuel? Seriously? And in close spaces? No Super shotgun, No rocket launcher or anything? F*ck off.

Wanting freeaim is the new wanting the ability to disable headbob. When was the last major update, like 8 years ago? I asked for headbob removal option back then and they waited until now to do it. They are in no rush to add freeaim. Especially when one of their employees goes online and says it doesn't make sense to do.

I actualy enjoyed E2M6 a lot and whole second episode, sadly I found no secret level in there. Crowd parts were the best, i like this type of challenge. Fact is that little more ammo should be helpful here, but if you dont waste your ammo like rambo you can easily make it on ultraviolence and I ended this level with few hundreds battery ammo.

I had much more ammo troubles in first levels of second episode of Legacy of Rust.
Especialy first level was hell and there was very hard to find secrets, I found only one, probably. I doubt thats possible to go throught that episode on ulktraviolence if you dont find enought secrets

I have serious question. Does anyone finished E2M7 on ultraviolence?
Maybe its just me, but part of level with group of cca 20 achviles with almost no way to cover seems to be imposible, and there are no official secrets in that level for extra powerups,

Legacy of Rust is a mixed bag.

The maps are sometimes hard to navigate. But the biggest issue is lack of ammo and weapon pickups. Some levels are impossible to pistol start because of this. And the lack of ammo is even worse when playing coop. More players equal bigger issue.

The wad needs an update with resource improvments.

The mapping it self is ok. Not bad, but not great either.

Off Topic: The best episode/wad in the remaster collection is No rest for the living. Excellent maps.

Its doable on UV, just extremely frustrating. You basically need to charge and fire right as the door drops and then spam fire the Calamity Blade while strafing around the nuke to the other room entrance. The final room with all the tyrants was far harder.

Also you didn't miss anything by not getting the secret level for E2, it wasn't particularly fun. Just running around avoiding rockets from a Cyberdemon while you flip switches to get to the next room and using the Cyberdemon's rockets to kill demons so you can progress. Also there was a room with 5 Archviles that wouldn't be fun if you did pistol start only.

I'm at level e2m6, pistol start on ultra violence without saving.

For now, my opinion is that despite being two above-average episodes, they're not very entertaining. I found it interesting that the difficulty is quite high for a casual player, which is okay since pushing the limits after 30 years since the game was released is basically a must at this point, the problem is that the difficulty that the levels propose is not the fun kind.

For my skill level, so far the only two levels I've found really difficult are e1m6 and e2m6, and both are pretty annoying and not fun. e2m6 is super gimmicky and, in my opinion, a bad level (that part where the archivilles keep throwing you all over the place while you try to burn them invincibly without seeing anything is on the level of “hot garbage” that you find in those levels made by kids in Mario Maker). The e2m6 would be the point that in a normal wad, I would abandon it, but I'm going to persist to get an overview of the game.

In other words, I think they're two okay episodes, they don't have any coherence in terms of level design, theme or anything, but I think that was on purpose because the original Doom is also a mess in this respect, so I'm not going to complain. For now, I think 6/10 is a fair grade for this new campaign.

It's a lot of fun, but man, E1M3 can diddle itself with the revenant trap rooms and archville BS
QUAKETALLICA Aug 19, 2024 @ 2:40am
Literally only played the first level, and it's already blown me away!

I love the UAC office design, with workstations, cubicles, those giant pipes, and desks where people were playing cards. I already thought this was a cool level, then the ending reminds me of one of the Quake 1 expansions, with these giant coils, activating a portal to Hell.

The more pseudo-realistic "Doom Cute" sort of style reminds me a bit of Doom 3.

Great stuff. I'll be happy to play the rest of it in future.

I have just finished the second episode yesterday so done with the LoR. I absolutely hated the e1m6 and I am not a fan of how spammy the end of episode 2 was but I guess that's for the veteran players to be challenged... I could do with more restrained maps. I did love e2m4, which seemed to be the most "classic" map to me.
As others have said, E1M6 sucks. The rest is fine so far (I haven't beaten M6 yet) but it's a bit too easy for my taste on UV. I dig stuff like SIGIL more where the difficulty comes less from an abundance of enemies and rather how they're placed and the level design. It's more memorable that way.
Bug which makes enemies randomly friendly is everywhere in E2, after some tries i made last level easily cause after some load enemies suddently stopped attack and just walked around walls. I never seem such thing in any doom mod or wad before.

EPIC FAIL

Yeah the demons occasionally bug out and become neutral in all wads right now. Quick loading can also cause demons to lose awareness of the player dropping all aggro. Definitely a buggy port in need of fixing.

I think its pretty great so far. its addressed one of my only minor complaints about the original doom games. the environments actually look like areas people inhabited and existed for a reason beyond a video game level. chairs, computers on desks ect. beyond those little effects I enjoyed so much the levels themselves are very good. much like the new quake expansion was.

e1m6 can suck my greasy haired balls, episode 2 feels better than episode 1 but the last 2 levels are big troll time, but overall fun.
