vkdoom = RTX support, add Brutal Doom for more fun!
So all this talk of the "enhanced" edition is neat, but... rather meh.

I present: vkdoom

Add in Brutal Doom, Project Brutality, or even Doom Metal Volume 5 for seasoning, and enjoy:

Be sure to use DoomRunner to manage the mods!

Nah, not a fan of vaseline.

Totally a fan of awesome.

That which "enhanced edition" is not.

Low effort cash grab to port to an engine that won't support user mods.

That's the new Starfield "Bethesda."

"cash grab" given away free to anyone who already owned doom?

I don't think you know what that phrase means.

"cash grab" implies a new release or something you must buy again, and this engine does support user mods (-iwad and -file too!)

But, it does not support bRuTaL dEwM, so it suuuuuuucks.

If I had a quarter for every "It's not GZDOOM!" whiner out there. I'd be a millionaire by now.

Brutal Doom is the shiznit.

So is GZDoom.

Anyone who does not use is a noob.
VKDoom doesn't add those graphical "improvements", it's just a version of GZDoom that supports Vulkan, Quake-style lightmaps and is generally geared towards the creation of entire games within the Doom engine. I was actually working on a project that used it to create 2001-era Duke Nukem Forever-styled graphics!

It's actually made for Disdain, which you can find on Steam right now!

Anyway, enough of me shilling for this engine. The "graphical improvements" are all community made mods found in the description of the video.

Yep. It is a really nifty fork.

Modded Doom is awesome.

I'm a DSDA guy. Now I only use GZDoom if it's a requirement. Everything else I use DSDA. I can't imagine not using it. I'm addicted to all the unique features it has and the rewind button is amazing.

that is probably one of the most awful things i've ever seen

Brutal Doom sucks. Give me Hideous Destructor any day.

Hideous Destructor violates the ethos of Doom. Doom is not a stupid tactical shooter. Doom is one superhuman man versus Hell, pumped full of adrenaline and awesome.
