PLEASE DON'T UPLOAD WITHOUT WAD AUTHOR'S PERMISSION!
People on the doomworld forums are furious.

https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/146899-classic-doom-new-update-on-steam/?page=16

Uploading without the author's permission is against the author's TOS... I expect ID to crack down on unauthorized uploads pretty soon.

doom I and II are on modern PCs unplayable and if Steam want them, tweaking some settings and playing with commandline each time where there is some update somewhere is foolish, but you may be right if there is some contractor work for ID Software and make them their licenses and maybe contractor programmer work by some company in behind to make this long standing issue for running under Linux. But if you read the docs, DirectX 12 is required so what is the question again?

Seconding this as a mod author (albeit one with very minimal output)
Don't do that ♥♥♥♥! You're not doing anyone any favours.

Meanwhile I think it's less desireable to upload your mods because it's not done via workshop which means you wont have all them on you profile with comments and what not

sigh

The main issue is if someone wants to say play it on their console they have to upload it. Theirs no other way.

Wait, you can UPLOAD wads in the new release? What??

Well, now... I kvetch about the whole bethesda(dot)net email business quite a bit, but if Bethesda starts permabanning those accounts for theft, I might rethink their value.
so mod authors are mad console players can play their wads?

For sooooo many of them, they can't even do that, because the wad will need some GZD functionality :D

Mod authors are just mad in general, as a rule.

it's not pointless hysteria, there was scandal in TES: Oblivion days where Bethesda said it has every right to any mods for their game, and shamelessly used some popular mods in the official Knights of the Nine expansion (now part of GOTY edition), without giving credit to creators.

So basically nearly-pointless hysteria.

The authors cannot monetize their mods legally anyway, so they won't ever be making money out of them. On the other hand, as a mod author, it would be great to have your work included in an official release.

At the same time, yes, it's a ♥♥♥♥ move by Bethesda not to even credit or highlight the mod authors whose work was used in official content, but at the same time, this is not the case here - those mods are not part of the official release, they're user uploads in a repository linked to the game, but not part of the core content, so I don't see the drama here.

If anything, I'd be happy if more people played and hopefully enjoyed my mediocre map I made back in 2004 :D

all the context i was aware off is "wad creators got upset because their mods have been uploaded to the new port"
either way, i still think mod creators blew things out of proportion (like always).
it's not id's responsibility to credit wads, the uploader's.

All the core content (the Featured mods by the way), all had their time in the sun when they were first brought over to the previous port (with an interview and Twitter spotlight), so its not like Bethesda refuses to credit creators nowadays.
