Vertical aiming is missing
I was so excited to try this game since a long time, but then was really disappointed after the first gameplay because of the silly control options, you can't see the items you pick.. nor aim at the enemies on top and below you whatsoever, i know it's a very old game but how such a feature doesn't exist in such a game?
If there are any solutions for this problem please let me know, thanks in advance.

For how common this complaint is, it's clear the players want free look.

I started off originally thinking, yeah ok it's a new release with the option to use source ports. But then I realized how incredibly far away we are from 1993 and how much things have changed.

What the rude and excuse making posters don't realize is, for all the comments they make justifying the lack of a seriously needed and wanted option that other source ports can do both ways, they repel potential new players to classic Doom. And their hostility in their answers make people leave and look for new games.

Game designers don't actually have a choice. They can of course make the game they want, because their creation is theirs.

But if they want the players there, they need to accommodate what people want.

And straight up, nobody likes hostility. When normal people are faced with hostility and they have other options, they'll walk away, not say a damn thing, and the hostile people will be like "WHERE DID THEY GO?" Complete dumbasses.

Also, it's really really not hard to make a wad where you need to make a jump but you're blocked because of infinite height enemies that you can't even see. It's also not hard to make a wad where there are poison or lava pits where cacodemons and lost souls aren't blocking your path to a teleporter.

Yet Legacy of Rust completely fails this so horribly, it's as if an amateur made these maps. Clearly, the maps took a lot of work. From a gameplay standpoint, to have a 2024 map set get you trapped in poison and infinite height enemies with no free look is when players look elsewhere.

I've beaten all of OG Doom 1 no episode 4 on Nightmare. This is not a skill issue. Technology has moved on. Duke Nukem 3d managed to figure out up and down look and landing on top of enemies in 1996. Heretic and Hexen also managed limited look up and down.

Set it to default OFF. Implement it as soon as possible. And call off the gatekeepers.

"The players want freelook."

No, a small subset of the players want freelook. The vast majority of the classic Doom community disagrees with you and thinks you people are obnoxious and absurd. So you can stop lying.

Yup, it's missing. Because this is VANILLA Doom. So you're not going to get vertical mouselook.
Less sales, less interest, less people that care. Easy to include, but your mind is broken.

Aww, so sad. Fortunately, the Doom franchise has been going strong for 30 years. We don't need you gaslighting whiners. Doom will be just fine. Thanks for the concern though. Bye now.

So go use GZDoom to have mouse aim.
So you want less people to like Doom or buy Doom or enjoy Doom because this port doesn't want to include what good source ports have done for at least 10 years.

You want your little tiny bubble of exclusive because of an option that could be added easily that could be default off?

Capcom moved on from that crap a decade ago. The world didn't stop.

But when Capcom re-releases their classic games (like the Street Fighter classic collection), they're all completely faithful to the original games. So you're being dishonest right now. Your argument tactics are very weak and childish. You lie. You gaslight. And worst of all: you try to leverage an ultimatum on the Doom community: "Implement freelook or I'm not playing! We'll stop playing!" So narcissistic too. A franchise that is most likely OLDER THAN YOU, that has one of the largest fanbases in video game history, and you think a bunch of entitled zoomers boycotting the game will actually harm it. That is so adorable.

Anyways, no freelook for you. Have a nice day.

Also, to play a Sourceport you need the original .wad, so buying this make you play the original and the sourceports editions with all their adventage like freelook, modern wads and modifications like the golden souls or Brutal Doom.

I trink you're acting on bad faith, and the Doom community it's strong to see what do you really want to do, and that is to farm points and clout.

No they aren't. Capcom fans constantly complain about how its not the exact same.

Honestly, I have a million better things to do with my time than argue this.

Rejoins the argument and goes on to then post:

They're not going to add freelook to the official port that is a faithful recreation of the original game, how the original game was designed.

Just let it go and play the community soruceports.

I love all of the faithful things in this port that aren't faithful at all but modernized additions just like free aim would be

Please highlight the additions that alter the original gameplay directly?

New music/UI doesn't count, nor does not using 320x200 resolution. The weapon wheel doesn't work here either as to my knowledge, it's mainly focused for console players. I've even seen no freelook whiners hyperfocus on text-to-speech which is some serious arm crippling reach, also doesn't apply here.

I'd be fine with freelook as long as enabling it disables achievements and locks you out of multiplayer.

The weapon wheel wasn't in the SNES release it is a change to how the game was officially released back in the 90s. Also the game running at 240fps is a massive gameplay change since the game was designed around 35fps.

The mods don't disable achievements neither does using the actual cheat codes to my knowledge. As for Multiplayer they could just lock the option at least for PvP.

Using the mouse was new to me when I loaded this up!

That aside, I do miss using the Ins+Del to rarely take a look around [Or using ALT + Arrows to Strafe] but that wasn't Original Doom.

Heretic FIRST introduced the Looking UP/DOWN in the Doom Engine.

I'd say I used it more in Duke 3D to checkout building tops for openings or to checkout them Strippers. You'd often never know unless you somehow wound up within screen view of things if you didn't peek. I don't remember if Blood, Hexen or Shadow Warrior had the same ability though. It looked god awful on them CRTs rofl!

Thanks for the post. Brought back some fun memories. "Shake It Baby!" :buzzed:

People keep bringing up a weapon wheel. Where is this weapon wheel? I see a mouse scroll wheel option for weapons, but it's slower than pressing the key. And it's most definitely not a weapon wheel.

A Weapon Wheel would be like in Doom 2016 and Eternal.

You keep trying to make the tech related points, and yet... you don't understand literally any of them.

And you still haven't backed any of your claims.
