Just copy the original WAD which everyone should have from disk or CD and copy it in the folder SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Ultimate Doom\rerelease
BAM, away with the ugly green crosses and back the red crosses of the medkits.

Apparently it does mess with matchmaking, actually. Looks like they use the md5 hash of the wad so you'd only get matched with other pc players who have swapped to the dos wads.

It's not a law, though. It's a respectful courtesy not to use it anymore and patch it out if you have used in older games.

But there are still games, in rare cases, using red crosses. Nobody is forbidden from using it.

I don't think you can get sued or anything if you decide you wanna use a red cross in your game.

It's more of a "moral" ground than a "legal" one.

Ok, I bought the Doom 3 BFG complete pack which contains Doom 1 and 2. I just finished playing Doom 1 with my kids, which has the normal med packs. We now started with Doom 2, and all of a sudden the med packs look terrible.
Do I need to download a version somewhere which contains the normal med packs, or can I patch my current files?

The Redcross literally sue people for using it as its defamation on their moniker, its known in game dev not to use that cross you are literally shooting yourself in the foot if you use it.

The actual red cross is so controversial that even Medikits in real life won't use it because they don't want to have litigation issues, if you notice the common stance for actual real Medikits is a white cross not a red one and that is totally done so that they cannot be confused as the red cross.

If you also try to upload historical photos of Redcross Nurse's to your steam artwork majority of the time the auto mod will be able to tell and will deny the upload. I tried this in the past as people where complaining about the OG Silvia being removed from 7dtd.

Yes she got "Removed" she is still in the game just not in the main game loop, you can spawn her from DM mode. Regardless she was in the likeness of a stereotypical "Redcross nurse" Looking like that.

And yes it is actually Illegal to depict a Redcross or Redcross Nurse. All those sexy Nurse outfits that woman wear at home are Illegal. Halloween ones are too as often they have red cross on them. If they have Redcross on them that is.

The Red Cross org suing for fictional stuff is like suing military games for violating the Geneva Convention...

Hell, even the Biohazard and Radioactivity Symbols are getting misused (on clothing for example) when they're about serious threats.

The org has enough work in the real world to bother fictional ones. And people should be educated about the irl meaning, that's what parents and schools are made for.


PS: They even invented the Red Crescent and Red Diamond because people thought that the Red Cross is referencing Christianity when it's representing the Switzerland flag with inverted colours.

I think behind the scenes its an excuse for them to get money lol, but is what it is. Many people in many different industries know not to mess with that cross, in Doom's day they probably didn't care or didn't know but i am sure they have known about it over time.

They know now that is for sure and will be the reason why it got changed. They may also of been requested to change it, i don't know the actual reasoning but its safe to assume they are either dodging a bullet or asked through lawyers to change it.

The ironic part is just type in Red Cross Controversy in Google and you can see the org itself has nothing but controversy. I think now the org is bad and just money hungry back in the day like ww1 they would of been an elite group of nurses the did some Heroic things. Now you just look at them and see all the controversy about how the are mismanaging all that money.
