Why are wad files renamed in this version by Nerve Software?
What's on the mind of the developers of this Unity port of the legendary game? why did they rename the wad files of the original vanilla games? Do they have problems with their heads, since they out of the made it difficult for the players?
That is, in order to pull out the doom.wad and doom2.wad files from the this version of doom for playing in third-party source ports, I have to take them out either from the dos version or know what they are called in the unity port from nerve. The most stupid decision imaginable.

But I also have the unity version because I have buy it for my Xbox One and I could install it on my PC and I could find the WAD.

Unity port works on most platforms and doesn't require much fiddling around if someone just wants to play the game, accessibility is king in this age and that's the thing the port does well from a vanilla standpoint.

Ultimately it doesn't matter because the original wad still comes with it and you can use a sourceport of choice.

The port is not "controversial" in the slightest. It was actually well recieved in general. I wouldn't call a handful of extremely vocal "goons" a solid base for controversy.

For example, I can’t use a third-party wad in a simple way (only those that are approved by bethesda), I can’t remove the HUD like in the original game, but the port for something has a crosshair and a new level of difficulty (UV+) that has nothing to do with the idea of ​​the original developers.

The PC and Android versions can both side load mods. You can place and load whatever you like in the C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM 2\WADs directory. May be in a slightly different location depending on how One Drive is configured, exchange "DOOM 2" for "Doom Classic" for the original Doom, though not many mapsets exist for that.

Likewise, it's Android/Data/com.Bethsoft.DOOM/files/WADs for Android.
