Is this the original?
I have never played Doom before. There are so many different titles - Doom, The Ultimate Doom, and so on...

Is this like a special version of the very first one? I bought the bundle and have many different Doom titles in my library. And they're all scattered which doesn't help >.<

The original Doom contains three episodes; Knee-Deep in the Undead, The Shores of Hell, and Inferno.

The Ultimate Doom contains all these plus a new fourth episode called; Thy Flesh Consumed.

So it is basically an updated version of Doom.

The episode is called Thy Flesh Consumed ;)

But yes, that's the only difference between the original and Ultimate Doom. Doom II is obviously the sequel, while both Final Doom and the Master Levels for Doom II are fan-made maps. They were officially released by id software, so I guess they're technically add-ons for Doom II, rather than mere community made maps q:

Doom is the same as the Ultimate Doom. The Ultimate Doom contains one extra level called Thy Flesh Consumed. After Doom/Ultimate Doom comes Doom II. AfterDoom II you should play Masterlevels of Doom and Final Doom. Don't bother playing Doom 3 it isnt worth it.

How come DOOM 3 isn't worth it?

Doom 3 is more of a survival horror that relies on constant jump scares. It's alright, but it's nothing like the original fast paced shooters. Also, Doom 3's guns feel weak and ineffective for the most part, although I do love its version of the Plasma Rifle. The gun's reload and firing sound effects are used in a fair few Doom 2 mods today.

DOOM 3 is different but it is still an awesome game

DOOM 3 isn't DOOM, but personally I really like it. It just depends on whether or not you like survival horror games.

In DOOM Shareware you only get the first episode.

Shareware is free and can be distributed freely. The idea was a very good one at the time and worked extremely well to sell games. You got a fully working game that you could play as much as you want, but if you wanted more then you'd pay for the full or "registered" version. This was a fantastic system with games that had an episodic nature, like Wolfenstein-3D, Doom, and Quake, as typically the first episode was free but would not have all the monsters and weapons present in the remaining episodes. To this day you can download any shareware episode from the old games and play it on a modern source port and not pay a dime to do it. The good news is the full versions are definitely worth it.

As for Doom 3, I love its atmosphere. I find it's best played in the dark with high quality headphones to pick up the sonic ambience. I did mod the weapons a little. I never liked the shotgun pattern so I tightened it up and reduced the overall damage to bring it more in line with the original Doom shotgun behavior. I also sped up the plasma projectile velocity to 825 units/sec to match the original Doom plasma and the gun feels better.

The Ultimate Doom is the first doom... It contains all 4 episodes. You made a good purchase.
Recon Jun 13, 2017 @ 12:43pm
The original DOOM contains 3 episodes. The Ultimate DOOM contains all 3 original episodes plus a 4th official episode. The doom with only 3 episodes came out in 1993 and the Ultimate DOOM which contains the final episode plus the 3 original episodes came out in 1995. So play the Ultimate Doom, IF, you think you can survive. lol
