Do I have to set my screen resolution to 800x600 to play Doom?

Just bought the game, it crashes upon launch. I believe it says something about "cannot set fullscreen 800x600-32", does this mean to play the game I have to set my screen to those settings?

Your desktop's screen resolution does not need to be changed, but the *conf files that DOSBox uses does. Open "doom2.conf" and/or "doom2m.conf" with a text editor like Notepad, look for "fullscreen=" under the [sdl] section and change whatever value it has to either "desktop", "0x0", or the whichever resolution your monitor/TV supports going by "<width>x<height>". You should also disable double-buffering by setting "fulldouble=" to "false". Other issues you might encounter can be found here in these guides.
