Quake-like 3d models for Doom are nice, but since they still move relatively slowly like the vanilla isometric sprites, gameplay isn't too intense.

The stuff I use:
*Project Brutality v3.0
*Universal Map Enhancements - upgrades the OG campaign decorations, without changing the layout.
*DOOM Metal vol.5
*HXTRCHUD PB - I would prefer a visor, but those have broken ammo counters.
*UC Minimap - radar that tracks switches and monsters.
*BDBE Flashlight
*Use to Pickup - not having to pick up stuff is a game changer.
DOOM Runner is my frontend loader of choice. It seems less clunky than DOOM Launcher, and is fairly simple to tweak to my preferences.
When running a game, I use the following command line variables...
+sv_instantreaction 1
+sv_alwaysspawnmulti 1
+infighting 1
This forces all monsters to infight their own species, upgrades their reflexes to Nightmare levels regardless of difficulty, and spawns multi-player items in a solo campaign. I typically combine the above with Fast Monsters and Double Ammo while playing Ultra-Violence difficulty. The monsters are the most capable they can be, without constantly reviving.
I use WadSmoosh to combine all of the official DOOM & II content into a single, uncensored file.
Crispy Doom has quite a few awesome functional, QoL and cosmetic features which allow you to take some liberties regarding demo-compatibility (or make it completely demo-compatible for that matter). The performance is excellent on my rather modern-ish PC. It's limit removing. It supports dehextra. It provides an "out of the box" support for some edge case wads like masterlevels.wad, or the xbox version of Doom iwad with proper secret exits... That kind of stuff. Basically it has everything I want from a vanilla compatible source port.
As for Woof, well, again it has everything I'd want from boom/mbf/mbf21 really. It's somewhat pointless for vanilla when you have Crispy Doom though.
I also like Doom Retro a lot. I just launch it whenever I want some change of pace. It has a lot of cool (mostly compatibility-breaking) features that imo are unmatched even by most complex GZDoom mods. For example the blood physics and the gibbing physics are so fine-tuned that they almost feel like a legacy feature of Doom that was always there... That's just imo of course, but everything this port does differently from other source ports feels so classy.
I am not a big fan of OpenGL shaders that are used in PrBoom+/DSDA-Doom, but when DSDA-Doom will get an indexed lightmode, I plan to use it a lot more, especially for some performance-unfriendly wads (for example Frozen Time wad).
Eternity Engine is always installed for the sake of... Well, playing Heartland really. Otherwise I don't use it much. 😅
GZDoom for gzdoom-only stuff, or just for the sake of changing the pace of the game whenever I feel like it. I also play Hexen exclusively on GZDoom. Unlike Doom I was never a fan of vanilla Hexen and I find it much more fun to play this game with proper perspective correction, quake-style controls, proper aiming, etc.
Not a source port, but I also have a dosbox-staging configured for playing vanilla doom engines. I like it because unlike dosbox it has different frame presentation modes. It's a game changer for variable refresh rate monitors (ie dosbox but with proper vertical synchronization and no additional input lag or frame pacing issues... awesome stuff).
on a game where miliseconds is diference between death and survive
then there others just are tooo slow... for big maps slaughter nature of wads around doom.. black edition hideos and destruction are waste of time you need investigate which map can addapt their need..
evp + corruption card is interesing combination of mod for random challenge
russian overkill is too boring very powerfull weapon i know for slaughter map but still boring
i think there must be a vainilla style mod around here there are like 200 hundred or more mod varierty out there where you can play fast as brutal doom but you must have lock down freemouse .. i dont know which mod could match that is somebody here know welcome and bdlite doesnt count because you need use freemouse aim for plasma and rocket weapon
Even Unity only has a couple of screen resolutions to choose from and no real 4:3 aspect ratio support. that is, with exclusive full screen for that AR.
Yes, it has some cool options like how to get add-ons and a new way to switch weapons and a few more but that's about it.
Once you download the addons you want, you have no good reason to continue using this port. In fact it has no Steam achievements lol
For me PrBoom+, Crispy Doom, Woof, GZ Doom and all the others source ports are better option if you want to play the smoothest way.
on a side note i heard DSDA and Woof are also pretty good sourceports compared to PrBoom+ but haven't tried them myself.
and while we are at it, i really didn't have a problem with a sourceport except for GZDoom, there is this bug where it resets your settings each time you close it and i don't know if it got fixed or not but it was very annoying, that and i don't like how it makes the game too dark by default.
I dont know at which point that was improved thought given that its been a LOOOOOOONG time since I last used PrBoom+ until now.
I like when things are clearly organized, for me that has value. Not even mentioning that played side by side there is hardly a difference. At this point we enter speedrunning category if we start looking for those. So, I figured I might as well use the one that was more enjoyable to ♥♥♥♥ around with.
I checked that Crispy-Doom doesn't have that problem and after configuring the "wasd" keys to navigate the menu I decided that the best option to play vanilla doom is Crispy-Doom.
I just want to play the common wads: doom, doom2, tnt, plutonia, sigil, nerve, and masterlevels. For that Crispy-Doom works perfect.
It has a retro-vanilla look to it which is what I'm looking for to play. You can also disable the high resolution aspect for an even more pixelated and retro aspect.
