local multiplayer issue

so basically me and my friend want to play the local deathmatch. so i connected a ps3 controller with scp server. i wanted to play on keyboard and he on controller. but when i go to press the fire button to start the controller registers as player 1. basically all i need to now is how to select mouse and keyboard as player 1 and the controller as player 2.

You can't. You need 2 controllers. And yes, it is retarded.

the only thing i know is that once you've set up with the 2 controllers, once you're in game, you can still use the keyboard afterwards to control player 1, but only after you've already set up both players with 2 controllers

It's truly a half-measure -- especially when both the recent Quake remasters offer local/lan/online play, with full support for keyboard/mouse.

This is DOOM's 30th year.
This game, and its PC player base, deserve better.
