Mouse and WASD, woah!
Wow, you really can't appreciate how difficult this game was back in '93 when the numberpad was your directions, ctrl was shoot and space was interact. Just got it up and running with the modern keyboard layout plus mouse, and it's much easier than I remember it ever being! :steamhappy:

space is still the best button for interact

Yep. I really can not appreciate that, since classic DOOM plays a way more comfortable with the classic layout from '93. WASD addicts are such WASD addicts.

It is heaps easier with mouse and not using alt, I just ran through episode 1 without dying on Ultra violence. And why add a crosshair? lol

*Would do anything to disable the hud.

yes, i love requiring a dedicate strafe button that renders me unable to turn while using it, in an already gimped keyboard-only aiming scheme. no really, i do! it's way more comfortable than that WASD de facto standard, the way their hands just perfectly rest on the WASD keys and everything falls into place naturally and every finger has an intuitive purpose, it's disgusting. it's hedonistic too in a way, when you really think about it. i'll stick with an inferior antiquated control scheme that restricts certain movements and actions from me any day. to the folks at home, trust me; it's better and way more comfortable than WSAD, or whatever you call it.

The worst part of original Doom control scheme is having the mouse move the character when you're trying to aim.

The classic controls ALWAYS had mouse-glide as an option -- it was never 'keyboard only'.

This was also an early attempt by Carmack at a 'simulationist' control scheme -- where it made for precise interaction with the rare 'jump puzzles', like the box room in E1M9.
You needed to ramp up your speed & control your landing with the mouse-glide for those maneuvers.

Mouselook+WASD is far more enjoyable, and why it won out as the industry standard -- especially with Quake & Build3D "DOOM Killer" titles taking the forefront.
