However, there are a few Doom source ports that offer split screen functionality, as well as general quality of life improvements for modern PC's. This fork of ZDoom[forum.zdoom.org] offers 2 player co op, which is what I personally use. There is also this fork of the Eternity Engine[www.doomworld.com] that has 4 player co op and death match. The reason I don't personally use this one is because the way it is setup, death match items show up during co op gameplay. That might not be a major issue for you, idk.
There are others, but these two were the main ones that were easy to setup and offered what I was looking for. It is very disappointing that PC doesn't have as solid split screen support as the console ports do... but these work well enough. Biggest disappointment is that none of these let you play LAN/online; would have been really cool to play with a group of local friends online or use multiple PC's for a Halo style splitscreen LAN party.
This seems to conflict with the flags on the store page.
Shared/Split Screen Co-op and Shared/Split Screen PvP, both sound to me like the game comes with support. It even has Remote Play Together.
Has this changed?
The Bethesda console update made its way to Steam on September 30th, which includes split screen and all of the ports various issues. I haven't tried it personally, though if I recall correctly, you get both the dosbox original releases and the Bethesda port; its not one of those cases where the old version is taken off for no good reason.
Thanks for clarifying! It's awesome that split-screen works now!
