What's Crispy Doom? (What does it adds compared to Choco Doom?)

Same as Chocolate Doom, but it uncaps the framerates, allows minor fixes (transparency, etc).

I now have both but Crispy has a wierd sound pitch bug, it's too high... I dunno how to fix it, I've tried several sound options but this doesn't work

If worse comes to worse, you could try and contact the developer of Crispy Doom to let them know about the issue.

Yeah you're right. I'll go to their site again and find a way to contact the devs... there's no reasons that Chocolate Doom don't have the same bug because this port is an upgraded version of ChocoDoom

I got a notification for this but I don't see the new message

I like both, but I think crispy edges out chocolate by just a bit. both can use digital sound packs and support metadata loop flags (sc-55 music packs are here in case you weren't aware http://sc55.duke4.net/games.php , download the FLAC boosted versions and get the .cfg files from chocolateDoom's GitHub), so the music is perfect for both ports. The extra resolution of Crispy Doom is really nice. It's a nice middle ground between the game's original res (oh god 320 is so hard to look at lol) and the unnatural smoothness of G/ZDoom which, in my opinion, kind of ruins the atmosphere.
The only port that has pitch-perfect diminished lighting though is still Chocolate Doom. The game was clearly made in that resolution, so the shadow-banding effect looks most natural when it's chunky. Crispy Doom adds some weird artifacts with that effect, but it's nothing too drastic, just some areas looking "off" up close, like they're lit a bit too well compared to Chocolate.

Anyway, just use both and see what you like best. They're both fantastic ports. And even the snobbiest of hipsters won't care if you use a port that ups the game's resolution from 1993 to 1996 lol, you're gonna get the same experience.
Then again, the invisible demons are easier to see in Crispy doom....
That cuts it, beat Chocolate Doom on Nightmare without saves or you're a noob and nobody will ever take you seriously as a gamer again :steammocking:

Nice review, I still prefer to use Crispy for the resolution (hard to play a game designed for smaller resolutions on a 1920x1080 monitor)

I would repeat myself but G/Zdoom can be configured to remove the smooth and filters.

I also prefer gzdoom for mods to be honest

I haven't got much into modding or custom WADs, I've just been playing the vanilla games since they came out before I was even born. If I did start getting into that scene I'd for sure be using GZdoom. I was looking for a vanilla-like experience for my first playthroughs though, and I've sort of just stuck with them so far.

did you find a answer for this? I have same problem.
I started using crispy doom and it worked great at first but now the game is running too fast and sound effects are all wrong and music too fast. tried setting fps to 35 again but thats not doing anything

Neither. I choose GZDoom.

I fixed this since a while, it was some messy .DLL file, I simply put my crispy doom content in the chocolate doom folder while not replacing the already existing files

Sorry but GZDoom kinda sucks when it come to "Doom authenticity", it's great for mods and for having a more modern gameplay tho, it's just not classic Doom at all.

Thanks for answer i'll use chocolate doom to fix

EDIT:

To fix audio I had to reinstall sound card drivers. I thought I had done this after win 10's last features update but I hadn't.
Another issue I had with crispy doom was it wasn't using my change of resolution in the crispy-doom.cfg file. To fix this I had to copy SDL2.dll, SDL2_mixer.dll and SDL2_net.dll from chocolate doom to crispy doom and now the resolution change in crispy doom config file is working.
