I put Sigil.wad into folder with DOOM.wad, nothing happened.
I unzipped the file, and cut and pasted the Sigil.wad and compat.wad into the Ultimate Doom folder containing the DOOM.wad, booted up the game and Sigil was not there. What did I do wrong?

I have the same issue. I used different source ports and such but no matter what Sigil.wad will never run. I don't get it. I have been modding and playing custom wads forever and this one just refuses to work.

-iwad DOOM.wad -file SIGIL.wad

Or this.

Or put doom.wad into gzdoom folder and then drag and drop sigil.wad onto gzdoom.exe.

I do that. Just opens doom and nothing else. All the episodes are the same.
Do i need the steam version of Doom? Cause I have a wad from a different site.

I agree with sound clock, I play the steam version, I do have GZ doom, but I would prefer if I could play with its "original" looking graphics via launching it on steam.
SoundClock5213 May 31, 2019 @ 8:37am
Well I dont have it on steam. Romero was vague in saying it needs the "registered version of Doom" at this point that could mean literally anything. I just want to run it and i keep trying different methods

I guess if anyone can get Sigil to run on steam, post it here. Until then, I hope Romero takes notice of this problem and addresses how to fix this issue.

this is really infuriating. i have never had problems with getting custom wads to work but the one made by big john himself is of course the firs one that refuses to run

Did you download a source port like GZDoom into the Ultimate Doom\base folder and then delete or rename dosbox.exe and then rename GZDoom.exe to dosbox.exe, go to your library Ultimate Doom properties, in the General Tab click Set Launch Options put -iwad Doom.wad -file SIGIL.wad in and click okay. You must have SIGIL.wad and Steam's DOOM.wad in the base folder. Happy launching! It also doesn't work on Vanilla or Chocolate Doom, you need a source port that allows unlimited map pieces or something. Otherwise you have to use the inferior SIGIL_COPMAT.wad.

He said he doesn't want to use sourceports. He wants to run sigil.wad via dosbox.

It only works on sourceports that allow for the amount of designs on the map, even the COMPAT one as well. ZDoom/GZDoom and others can be used, just need to disable all the necessary options to get as vanilla as you can. I can confirm it breaks like HELL on DOSBOX and Chocolate Doom. I have gotten a few other sourceports to work, some only work with the COMPAT WAD.

Or just legally own Ultimate Doom 1.9 WAD from 1995/1996 and use a compatible source port.
