Multiplayer not working
Friend and me tried everything, doesnt work.
When we get into an invasion mode, at one point all start moving on spot for the joined player (not host).
No fix worked.
Resuming from a save also doesnt work.

Hey Nemesis!

We found a bug with multiplayer saves and are releasing a hotfix today to solve that.

If that's not it, can both of you please try these steps: https://sauropodstudio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/218389798-How-to-do-a-fresh-reinstall-of-Castle-Story-Crashes-Crash-

Additionally, we suspect virtual network software such as Hamachi, Tunngle, EvolveHQ, etc. are causing connection instability. Try uninstalling those from both your machines then trying again.

Please see the big post on the main forum hub. We did all of your "fixes".
Just that nothing is getting fixed by that. A fresh install, opening ports manually, making exceptions or turning off firewalls not working aswell.
I dont see where having a programm installed at all would cause connection issues in any way.
Like, we are not running tunngle or hamachi next to gaming except we desperately need it to even be able to play a game online. If we are needed to uninstall to get the game running in multiplayer, i recommend you start looking at a real fix because that wont work.
Would be fun doing PC Gaming if i ever had to uninstall certain programs for a game to run properly.
A programm like tunngle or hamachi cant cause connectivity issues when its not running or doing anything at all.
Its not even a background process.
And icant randomly uninstall programs because this one game is not coded well enough to run properly.
I played quite a bunch of wonky games, like Stronghold which also had big connectivity issues, but even that ancient game is running fine.
Let alone the fact that we have to mess around with firewalls is ridiculous anyway.
The "savegame bug" is only one out of 4 big problems with the multiplayer, next to a load of smaller issues.
The real bug you have to fix is the one where the player joining a game gets brocktrons running on spot.
So many people have this bug and it renders the multiplayer unplayable.
While we already tried the "uninstall" fix with wiping all data from our pcs and reinstalling, i cant see why this would be a fix anyway.
I mean, we just got this game fresh on our machines. Yesterday.
Doing a complete fresh install is pretty much the same as just downloading it for the first time anyway, so what would change when it didnt work from the get go?
And as expected it didnt help.

Essentially you have a good game here, but its so wonky and in bad shape that the multiplayer issues render it barely ok.
If multiplayer worked properly without big issues, i would gladly call this game a must have.
The way it is though, i cant.
I recommend you dig into this problem of people getting the walk on spot bug and other connectivity issues and fix it on the games side so weird workarounds arent needed.

For more see the lengthy post here with all details.
I doubt though that one of you will like the resumée of it.
I know its hard to read such stuff, and its heartbreaking for me to do it. I bet you are nice guys trying your best and i really dont want to flame around or something.
But at the moment for many (at least enough people, like 80% of all i met online since yesterday which were around 28 people not counting the numerous forum posts about MP issues) this game is only at 50% working.
Meaning the singleplayer. Thats not acceptable, even if a workaround would work it wouldnt be acceptable.

Hey Nemesis - sorry about that, when responding to discussions on the forums, I tend to only take the current discussion in context - sometimes different people post the same issue on different platforms, and I have to go through the basic troubleshooting steps with them.

So far, everyone having connection instabilities with the game has had a virtual network software installed. I realise that "uninstall the software" isn't a fix, but it's something we're attempting to troubleshoot and confirm that this is the issue - once we know factually it is the issue, we'll work on resolving it.

We suspect there's an issue with the networking system of Unity that we use for Castle Story (Unet). When you have such software installed, even if the software isn't running, Unity could be selecting that network adapter to establish its settings. One of these settings is the "MTU" which dictates the maximum size of packets that Unity can transfer during your multiplayer games. Those virtual network software are having a smaller MTU size than your actual network adapter. You can find this out by yourself by opening a command prompt and typing netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces

You'll see something like this, if you have Hamachi installed:
https://i.imgur.com/ayY5lxa.png

You'll notice that a regular network adapter has 1500 under the MTU column. Hamachi always seems to have less; 1404 in this case.

When you're playing a multiplayer game, eventually, one of the transferred packets turns out to be larger than 1404 bytes (remember; Unity wrongly selected that as its settings), then the game can crash, disconnect or you get the unwanted "frozen Bricktrons".

It's only a hypothesis although it's very clearly looking like that's what it is, which is why we need your help troubleshooting and we're asking you to try these steps. We can't seem to reproduce this internally either, which makes it difficult to fix. Not everyone that has Hamachi has the issue, but everyone that has the issue seems to have Hamachi.

If you aren't willing to uninstall Hamachi to test if it resolves the issue, I don't blame you, but I can't offer an immediate solution, sit tight and we're doing our best to resolve the issue ASAP.

Thank you.

Ok to be clear. Hamachi isnt installed at all. What is installed is Tunngle.
When typing in the command into the cmd i get this

1500 5 0 0 Ethernet
1500 1 1057958755 5642505 WLAN
1500 5 0 0 LAN-Verbindung* 2
4294967295 1 0 3380 Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1
1500 5 0 0 Tunngle

As seen, Tunngle has also 1500. So i cant see that its the same as the hypothesis with the 1404.
Im not saying you are wrong, i mean you are the expert. All im saying is, hamachi isnt there and we still have the issue. We can try it without any of these programms installed. But im pessimistic about it working, i assume it will just occur anyway and be gone hypothesis. Because if its not that, what else could it be.

So we get rid of Tunngle aswell and try again. Well see how that works.

And i have tried it. Doesnt work.
Deinstalled Tunngle, now the walking on spot bug appeared even faster than before (i also checked with the cmd, nothing else being there, especially nothing with 1404, Tunngle was with 1500 to begin with, i still deinstalled it).
I then did the other fixes again (complete wipe and deinstall of the game and reinstall afterwards), all the other stuff like open ports and exceptions still active.
Again after about 7 minutes walking on spot bug, this time the game even crashed the server for my friend (the host) aswell and threw him out.

So there goes that hamachi hypothesis. All four recommended fixes didnt work in any way, the only difference just was on how fast the bug happens. In every case though, we didnt manage to get to the first wave in Invasion (so less than 14 minutes until the bug appears).

Hey NemesisZidar,

I'm going to forward this thread to our network dev and come back to you with a response.
Shatojon  [developer] Dec 19, 2017 @ 11:17am
Hey NemesisZidar,

Sorry about all the hoops you're having to jump through, but it's super useful for us to have a player that's taking the time to describe everything in detail - so thank you.

Could you please also check with your friend that his virtual network software aren't affecting the connection? If he has something with a lower MTU, it could be causing the problem too - not just for the host.
Buntkreuz Dec 19, 2017 @ 11:50am
I will ask him again, but he said to me he hasnt and he also checked his cmd with the exact same command that you posted.
All the apparent fixes were done by us two. Exceptions in firewalls, port opening, reinstallation (after wiping all data that could be found), deinstalling of software like tunngle and hamachi. We even checked whether it works when we dont use TeamSpeak just to make sure.
We switched the roles (host/joiner), the gamemode, maps and checked the game on faults through steam (for missing files and such stuff).
The problem(s) persist.

Hey NemesisZidar,

Pretty discouraging to hear it didn't work - I'm really sorry about that.

Can you please provide me with both your and your friend's logs when the bug happens, just so we can rule out the possibility of a different bug that has the same symptoms as other players are experiencing?

Here's how to find your MP logs: https://sauropodstudio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001840547

Also, did both of you try playing with different people? If one of you has an issue with their connection, it doesn't matter who's hosting and who's the client. The issue is going to repeat itself until the source of the problem is resolved.

next time we can play i ask him to do that.
Cant really remember whether we played with others. I think not as we just tried to play alone. I was joining a lobby with other players, but the host was afk so i left again.

Alright Nemesis - I'll be waiting on your response.

If possible, try playing with others to see if it isn't your or your friend's connection causing the issue - if you can (with the virtual network software uninstalled) play just fine with others, then it's likely your friend's connection causing the issue (or vice versa) and we'll be one step closer to finding the solution.

Also like I said, make sure your friend has his virutal network software uninstalled to test.

where to send the log(s)?

So is there a acutal fix for this multiplayer coming or no? I understand that its the holidays and you have family as we are humans. But this has been going on for some time. If you cant find/patch the ACUTAL issue Im just going to refund this game and buy something that has a mutiplayer that works.
