open source
I believe at least one of the original developers still looks in here from time to time...

being as this game *looks* like its abandoned, why don't you release *just* the source code, anyone wanting to hack the game or play it will still need to purchase, but the many issues could be fixed by the community, you might want to just abandon the source or maintain a git repo and cherry pick good PR's depending on how involved you want to remain...

Unfortunately, it's not as easy as just doing it. There are investors that have a say in the matter. Also, we're currently not entirely idle (although there's nothing new coming out at the time being) so it's not totally inconceivable that we do something with Castle Story in the future. :)

This is a cop out. You can still control the code base under the correct license. You could put it up on public repo for people to start to contribute to while still controlling what you merge and the features you wish the community to work on.

Do you deserve this after how you mis-managed the investment we made into this game? No.

The least you could do is place this games code in a place where the community might continue to work on it when you won't 'because you made the code too messy and it would take too much effort to un-mess it' and shelf it for a time that'll never come 'when you have the time and resources to work on it again'.

Let's be honest, it's a great concept... in the wrong hands. YOU can fix that in a way that your investors are happy with such as selling to another studio or taking it open source with closed builds which you release with the OK of your investors and customers, but you refuse to.

well, I guess the thing to do is an open source clean room re implementation, I wonder how many people would be up for it,...

Open sourcing the art assets would make sense and thats something they could do without an excuse.

Forget open sourcing the code though. On top of intellectual property complications, its likely a dumpster fire under the hood and faster to rebuild from scratch.

Does Sauropod still exist even?
Their last campaign was a huge failure and released an "unfinished" game vastly behind its original premise (let alone being an original game to begin with).
I honestly thought they would pretty much disappear.
Im not saying I WANT that this happens. But with the current track record of both games having severe issues and problematic development processes, i assumed this would put them very close to bankrupcy.

They exist and they're exceptional at keeping the forums clean of *any*... negativity.

Then im possibly "lucky" that its not "negative" but just factual.
I mean, that kickstarter project failed and the game they released actually was far behind of what they wanted it to become.
That just happened.

But while typing i have to admit that yes, i have a negative impression of Sauropod, but thats on their end to fix and not mine.
Currently their image is more or less on par with companies like Uber Entertainment or Codehatch Games.
If they want that image to become better, thats not the way.

I hope they will make a full turn and get out a great game next, one that truly delivers quality, fun and value.
Their first two projects werent that and they need to rethink on how they go at their projects to achieve better.
Castle Story was a competent game and i like its appeal, but i disliked how they handled it or how broken it still is.
I wish them the best and hope they get to that point where they manage to get a great game out.
I just thought that their performance up till now caused them to just disappear as i have seen plenty of developers perform MUCH better and still not or hardly being able to stay afloat, with much better games even.
Thus my honest surprise that they are still up and running, especially considering they havent put out that many games to begin with.

You would assume you wouldn't get banned for remaining factual and polite, but yeah.
