Painted mythic drop rate?
Hiya! I've loved the journey of this game so far; the idle accumulation and discovering new things and the cute fish and all. :3 But I'm at card pack simulator endgame now, which I see was a problem before the gold packs were introduced.

My Q is... did the drop rates for painted mythics change with the gold pack implementation, or are the later ones like 0.1%? I was getting them (though rarely) up until that patch. Now, none.

I've been aiming for the painted colossal squid for hours and hours of just card pack opening. I filled two tanks with just painted coelacanths & painted giant squids before I sold them all. I've pulled 48 regular colossal squids just since I've started opening Giants packs solely for that last fish. It seems... kind of an insane drop rate, and it's no longer fun. The opening 25 packs 100 times in a row isn't fun, especially since I can't do it instantly.

Thanks! I only ask because I've been enjoying it a lot so far. :) I'd like to complete all the achieves but this is decidedly not an enjoyable grind.

i know, it's a pain ... for me it worked in the end ... but opening and selling packs for hours is more like real work and doesn't feel like playing a game anymore
i've kinda dropped the game for this reason. hoping the dev does some more balancing so us completionists have more of a chance at getting those last few achievements :')

a button "sell all discovered" fish would be amazing
exactly
i need the painted collosal squid
This is the exact same problem I am having. I've gotten all the painted fish achievements except the most recent pack (before getting the mythic was a requirement to get the achievement), and I'm trying to get the last few golden fish for the rivers and ponds, reef dwellers, and the most recent release of fish.

I've opened SO MANY rivers and ponds packs and gotten a lot of mythic fish but none of them are painted. It seems like the Mythic painted are the last that I need to get the unlock for the golden packs of fish (which would make my life a lot easier) but I'm just not getting them.

It would be nice if the drop rate was tied to the amount of grown fish you keep in the tank (i.e. if I have 10 grown mythic angelfish it increases the drop rate of a painted mythic of the same type)

I'm literally missing the first two painted mythics, the polka dot stingray and the paddlefish. At first I thought maybe they were 'locked' behind something, like getting all other painted variations in the pack or getting the previous painted mythic; but then I randomly pulled a painted masked angelfish while I wasn't even done collecting and raising all the normal third pack fish, so nope it looks like it's *just* luck.

I was thinking that perhaps you could have a system to 'combine' regular fish into a painted. IIrc the intended painted rate is 1/8, so 2.5 times that would be the nice round number of 20 fish, which I feel is still grindy enough that nobody could consider it a 'cheat' or a 'get out of jail free' card, but with the added incentive of each normal fish you pull being potential progress instead of an insult to your bad luck, it would be *significantly* less maddening imo.

I haven't had a single mythic drop in well over a week, this is making me not want to play this game any more

The drop rate hasn't changed at all -- I think the drop rate is okay on average but some percentage of people will get very unlucky and have a long string. 48 is quite rough, (like 1/600) but given that thousands of people are playing the game every day it's to be expected that this will happen sometimes.

That said, maybe I should just add a pity timer for mythics now that they matter more...

The drop rate certainly plays a role, but the more pressing issue is the UI/UX. Buying new packs, opening them, and culling the fish you don't need take too many unnecessary steps and add to the overall frustration more than the low drop rate. Opening packs and discovering a rare fish is fun and exciting, but the process of opening packs and selling unnecessary fish is cumbersome and unfun. The low drop rate wouldn't be as big of a problem is the process wasn't such a drag.

My suggestion would be to:
  1. Create an option toggle to immediately spawn all purchased fish without having to scroll through their cards with mouse. Seeing cards and scrolling through them is cool when you're initially discovering the fish for the first time. When you have to repeat this hundreds, if not thousands, of times, it gets old fast.
  2. Place a "favorite fish pack" button accessible directly from the tank (maybe immediately below the Shop button) that can be pressed to purchase maximum quantity of chosen fish pack without having to dive through the menu.
  3. Create a more robust filtering system to help people cull unnecessary fish (e.g. already discovered, already owned, etc.)

Do appreciate that I came to the discussions with the same topic in mind, and it's the literal first post.

Also having the same troubles, Didn't count how many attempts to try to find the last Painted mythic I had to farm for. Will start counting Mythics binned or golds/rainbows hit in the mean time.

Outliers will happen, of course, but you also know in a customer complaint situation, 80% or so customers won't bother to complain about an issue (I forget the specific percentage, but I learnt this twice through coursework)

So a method to make it simpler when you are down to chasing just painted Mythics, whether it be stats adjustment or some way to earn better odds, Or even a method to simplify opening mass packs (filtering out standards, certain rarities, or other?)

Great little game thou. Very chill.

In some way, having rare drops make the achievements more compelling. Personally I like the idea of adding a count, that make sure to drop the painted mythic if you are an outlier (for example the 0.5% or 1% of those with the worst luck). I'm currently wondering if I should continue trying to find those elusive mythic or wait for a future update, sir Developer, can you tell me if you will address this issue? Thanks a bunch!

I also have had just the worst time with the painted Colossal Squid in particular. I've been a more casual player, which means I've been flipping through fish cards for actual weeks, checking on the game twice a dayish to see which fish grew, not an active hunter like most in the thread. It is a bit disheartening only once in a blue moon even seeing a mythic at all and then of course it isn't painted. A pity system would be a surefire way to fix the issue without changing the game; your next mythic is guaranteed to be painted after a certain number of mythics that aren't. Would still keep the spirit of working for it alive imo and then the hunt for the rainbows is still the ultimate challenge.

The drop rate of the painted colossal squid feels very off to me. I have been pulling and quick selling fish for days, maybe 30-45 mins a day. In the meantime I saw +- 20 regular mythics, but none of them was painted. I get that the odd of a painted mythic needs to be very low, but this is just ridiculous and feels as a very tedious chore.
Just finally got the painted mythic from the pelagic set and I saw the unpainted mythic at least 40 times, just unlucky. I ended up with 20/26 golds before I saw it lolol. I think a pity system would be nice for sure :)

I've been opening packs for hours looking for one painted mythic. We need bigger tanks or an auto-sell discovered option.
