Suggestion: No Duplicate Gold Fish Until Achievement
I like collecting 100%ed games, and I aspire to 100% Chillquarium but the spawn rates on Golds and the fact that they duplicate is frustrating. It would be great if when you were playing, the first 25 golds from each pack were guaranteed to be unique, and THEN they could duplicate however randomly. This would still require players to grind for the achievement, but make it a more reasonable task.

If that's deemed too easy, then perhaps put a limit on the number of duplicate spawns until the achievement is obtained? E.G. the same gold drop can happen two or three times, but then won't happen again until you get all the golden fish from that pack.

There's other options too like potentially a (VERY) late game decoration that increases gold spawns, but that would probably be too cheap. I like that my first suggestion doesn't make gold spawns more common, it just makes the slog a bit less bad while grinding for all gold fish.

Thoughts? Opinions?

This, please this. Trying to get the 25th golden fish when you already have 24 is insanely tedious.

I have done this grind myself so I know what you mean. For a while my wife and I would spend 15 minutes before bed every night rolling for golds :)

It's hard to balance this because anything I do to make the grind easier also cheapens it in a way. There are a few things working in your favor under the hood, and its possible that they need to be tuned a little tighter. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm on color variations 24/25 for ages now on one type and I'm starting to wonder if it's bugged or if I'm just really unlucky. Wasn't an issue for all the other types but just how long does that take. Idek if i'll even tryhard for all gold types. xD

EDIT: Disregard, I got it today, just took a bit longer than the others.

You could make it so when you reach a certain number of gold fish, the next one is 50/50 between just the ones you don't have yet and all of them. You can up that % if it hits one you have.
Something besides the grace thing and the re roll. =)

I think you did such a great job on this game, and I used to play it a ton because it was very relaxing. Now I have 24/25 for giants, all I need is the giant squid in golden and I have my final achievement. In the last couple of hours, I just spent 30,250,000,000 on giant packs, am now completely out of money, and still I'm 24/25 and have to wait for some money to trickle back in. This is a regular process in my 156 hours of playtime.

Maybe that's par for the course, but I really would love to know if my bad luck is actually NOT as bad as it seems, or something else is going on. I understand the mercy system can't really be primed to give only golds that you don't have, but do we have access to the percent chances? I somehow got two rainbow Atlantic Tarpons in a row (my first rainbow dupe, in fact), and I have 2/5 golden mythics, but still not this elusive golden squid. I know it's supposed to be a challenge, but exactly how challenging is it supposed to be? Thank god there's no achievements for rainbows, but aren't those even primed against duplicates for when I feel up to tackle that next challenge? Thanks in advance for any advice/answers you may have. :)

Glad you're enjoying the game! Yes it's supposed to be a challenge, but here's a breakdown of the numbers -- Gold fish are just a 1/512 chance. If you roll a gold that you've already unlocked, the game rolls again once to try and get one that you haven't seen. If you've unlocked all of the Common golds, any new common golds have a chance (50% I think, it's been a while to upgrade to a Rare. This can happen multiple times, so if you've unlocked all the Rares and Epics then you have a 1/16 chance to upgrade a golden common to a golden mythic.

Best of luck!

Another 30 billion, but I got my last gold! Thank you very much for the numbers, it really helped to put it in perspective for me. I might've been catastrophizing a bit but seeing it written out gave me the push to keep going. Just keep buying those 25 packs.

Have you considered offering some rather pricey upgrades that allow you auto sell when you roll a pack? Then another to keep purchasing until you run out of money? For example, I'd like to automatically buy a pack, sell them if they are all rare or below, and pull another pack immediately, sell them if they are rare or below, and repeat. I'm currently at end game where money is coming in faster than I can spend it, but I've still got to get all golds on every set. It's tedious to the point of not wanting to continue. Thanks for reading!

I get that completing the gold achievements should take a while but i am in the opinion that it shouldn't take anyone more than 50 hrs of actively playing the game to get all the gold fish. There are a lot of games that have really engaging gameplay loops that take anywhere from 40-100 hrs of play time to get 100%. You don't even notice the hours spent. In contrast, Chillquarium has a simple gameplay loop that you would easily get the gist of the game after a handful of hours in and the remaining play time will be spent solely on achievement hunting which, from that point on, becomes quite the chore. There are no other aspects of the game that will distract the player from the tedium of buying packs, opening, selling, repeating. If increasing the chances for getting gold is not in the cards, then I would probably suggest having a separate button to claim all fish from opening booster packs (all 100 of the cards on screen after opening 25 packs). Having to swipe my mouse left and right just to claim all 100 cards is quite a pain, honestly. I'll still attempt getting 100% just coz I don't like to quit things halfway but I honestly think the game does not warrant this kind of grind.

I think the gacha part should be revamped a bit and highlight new fishes in a better way.

Right now the way it works kill the excitement of rolling for getting new ones and makes it a very, very tedious task: it would feel better if a new fish popped in a glittery way on the screen. Of course do this for golden only otherwise the first packs for new players are gonna take a while to open :P

You have a cool, nice concept here but the execution could be better. Rolling and trashing packs would be a better experience if you just highlighted the new unlocks in a better way.

right now i have 53 hours played and i agree with everything yall have said above with the upgrades, tedious pack opening, etc. ive gotten all the common and painted fish, 71/125 golden, and im not hunting the rainbow fish since there arent achievements for them. anyway, i also think there should be more tanks since i want to have a tank for the golden, the rainbow/colors, and pack opening tanks. also, some pricey upgrades would be nice bc i make so much money in game that a pricetag doesnt matter lol

oh also - i think for rainbow and gold fish, either a pricey gold or rainbow pack in the shop could help, or a shop 'buff' that has a time limit (such as +10% chance for gold fish / +5% for rainbow fish) for X hours from packs would help too.

Do not do this. I've been spending a lot of time rolling, trying to get one gold (only need one more) and I can't wait to actually get it. The happiness I will receive from it is going to be so good. And the fact that you are basically guaranteed to get every gold is not as rewarding. Please keep it the same, since when opening card packs in real life, you are also not guaranteed to get every rare card.

I agree that guaranteeing undiscovered fish would be too much. Though the 1/512 chance to get a golden (which will most likely be common anyway) is a bit too low I think. And even if the dev doesn't change the odds, we could definitely appreciate if the process of opening packs and selling unwanted fish can be made less of a hassle. Swiping the mouse left and right just to "accept" 100 fish is bad UI in my opinion - something that a "Claim all" button easily fixes.

I also agree that the shop can use many more stuff to ease the process for advanced players wanting to get all achievements

- pricey gold packs or timed buff (emizucchini's idea)
- some overly expensive "breeding machine" that lets you consume two of the same fish (same color) for a slight chance to output a baby fish of a higher color
- a "cloning machine" to place in a tank. you can choose which fish to put in and start cloning. would output a duplicate fish every few hrs/days w/ a chance to get a higher color
- more tanks and space
