Deconstruction Tactics
I've made some bad moves in designing a living space. The first was building concrete blocks directly on dirt, now the grass sprites are poking through, and even digging under the house didn't get rid of layer they're growing on. The second was using windows, it's kinda bad without glass, those leech/worm jerks can just crawl in. Third, and worst mistake, was tiling my roof with iron blocks. Making a staircase to the top is kinda hideous now with those panels skewed out everywhere.

What am I left with? A functionally bankrupt ugly heep of scrap.

So, has anyone found out the best way to deconstruct this sort of mess?

Edit: I ended up deleting the world due to some frequent crashes, probably due to updating.
But wouldn't mind some tips for future reference.

Apparently, you can drill wood and cement blocks to destroy them, but I've stood there with my mouse on click for upwards of five minutes and the drill does nothing. I've had better luck with the chainsaw.

Metal blocks need to be destroyed with explosives. Have not tested this in SP to see whether it's also glitched like my drill apparently is.
I've noticed that there are times where the particles don't show, I might be wrong, but I think the tool you use isn't doing anything when the particles aren't there.

I've tried the Creative Drill on concrete, but it isn't all that great, takes forever. I'd love for there to be a tool that can re-package blocks in spire zones you have editing access in.
You need to damage them to destroy them, drilling them will damage them at a regular pace, but if you ever tried drilling enemies you notice that most drills dont do as much damage. If you really want to kill blocks shooting them with weapons will destroy them faster, but at the expense of ammo.

I too hope that they will implement a system where you can deconstruct your placed blocks easier. In previous builds you could pick up all placed blocks, but now its limited to the last 5. And the terrain that is within a block cannot be removed without removing the block first, which is annoying as hell as it sticks through it. Building on uneven terrain will make you want to clear out all terrain first before you start building blocks.
the chainsaw can destroy the basic wood blocks fast and easy.

edit: tested reinforced wood block and came to conclusion, both wood blocks are best destroyed with the chainsaw.

i build my foundation, walls out of reinforced wood blocks til i get high enough so the worm thingys cant break in so easly then i switch 2 reg wood blocks, save metal 4 the roof, i always build 2 story as well
Homestly, demolition takes a long time. I usually leave my crap houses around as bunkers I can dart into them in case the situation gets too hot and build somewhere else.
What CptKerion said - it takes a LONG time to knock stuff down.

Old screenshot - 2 days to take out 7 bricks - almost 3 for 9 of them. Concrete bricks. This is using the Tungsten drill.

They CAN be removed but it's almost 10 minutes per block with these.

I posted a recommendation that they mask the blocks with a damage mesh (looksl ike its cracking) so you can see you are making progress.

Yeah, in 7DTD it's exactly like that.
When I am doing a largescale building project, I start off by making a 'mold' out of the basic wood block. That way I can destroy them in about 5 seconds with a chain saw, and replace them where I want. Once I like the setup, I remove the wood block and replace it with the block of choice (monolith or graph usually).

Takes longer over all, but ensures a nice design in the end.

Instead of removing the wood blocks at the end, cant you just place a higher tier block over a lower tier block? It may have been removed, but I thought you could replace wood with iron/steel/whathaveyou by just placing it over. Might save some time.
Ok, the last reply here is dated 27 Aug.

I just want to ask, are wooden blocks still destroyable with chainsaws? I am sooo hoping!

I don't mind drilling/mining/harvesting placeable blocks again if it means its a mechanic by which you can rearrange the layout of your blocks. If you think about it, it makes it more realistic too.

Even real fortresses that are made of wood and stone (bricks, rebars, etc.) can be "reclaimed" and recycled. Like, don't we all have a Forging Terminals in-game anyways? Heck, even the player alone can forge certain items without the need for a forging terminal.

Here's my take on this: Let placeable blocks be removable 'till you log off as per latest update, then when you log back in, let them be removable via damage, or via mining/harvesting them back into their basic components ala recycling.
