Same problem for the syringe, grabbing it on the body is a good idea. And if we could inject it anywhere, that would be even better (in an emergency situation, I happened to miss my arm)!
Hmm, that seems like it might be tough to get the hand in the right spot in such critical moments, after you've already dropped your weapon too. I can see flailing around, trying to find the spot to make the syringe appear.
I'd say, instead of having it appear when you get the hand in the right spot, make it an invisible grab like with over the shoulder. Grab near the chest, with a big hit-box, and you've got the syringe in-hand, rather than trying to make it appear first.
1) under button beside shield there are 2 types of granades and land mines
2) It is possible to pick up shield with much less than second, especially that it is center placed when it appear and muscle memory develops for where it is after some time
2) shield is not essential, later in the game when I got better, I used sword to block and having option to quick recharde melee weapon reaching behind shoulder was better for fluid gameplay than having there shield instead
4) picking up syringe from players torso might work but removing it from quick menu button will negate auto heal option which I found essential during fights on heroic difficulity, when having both hands engaded for simultaneous blocking and shooting
I might be late to this party... but my 2 cents on this issue is allow us to select any sub item to be a shoulder grab in the menu. Because early game i agree, i needed the shield all the time. But now in the mid-late game i want grenades easily accessible. Maybe this could be done by grabbing the item you want from the sub-menu then storing it on your shoulder so it remembers this item until you do the same thing with another item. But only do this when you grab from the sub-menu, otherwise you would end up picking up some random item from a crate and then that item gets assigned to your shoulder.
It's not horrible to learn the muscle memory to open the sub-menu and grab an item but it definitely has gotten me killed a bunch of times fiddling around with it. I always end up trying to jump and dodge while i select and then get shot in the back.
The auto-grab syringe from a chest slot is a a great idea also, and doesn't need to negate auto-healing if you guys program it that way :D
The only way I see the above working though is if you can still shoulder reload regardless of the item in shoulder storage. Changing fiddling for items to fiddling for ammo would be a bad move.
TLDR - Allowing us to shoulder reload AND set any item in the shoulder storage would greatly increase the fluidity of combat. And it would add an element of planning ahead for certain encounters where a particular item is most useful.
