Player count?
This definitely does look interesting enough to think about purchasing, even with the price and sub. But, looking at the store stats, it's the 30th seller on release, and it's not even on the 100 top games being played. That doesn't bode well if this is a Steam only title.

Is this sold other places so the numbers might be higher? Or better yet, do the devs keep track of player count? You guys keep talking about how the ffa pvp is the main selling point, but if there are no players online, that kind of kills it.

It's not Steam only but judging by the numbers in various games on Steam at any given time tells us that it's been a rough launch for sure. Though it would be interesting to know just how many actually bought the game on Steam.

the majority of the playerbase (like 98%) has bought the game from the official website https://forums.darkfallonline.com/forum.php and NOT through stream.. im playing right now and i can tell that even at 3 AM there are people at pretty much every mob spawn.. the game is packed

Like someone said, most people didnt wait for steam to buy the game but are still waiting for their keys to link their steam account to their game account.

The EU server has around 3100 players in clans + the unclaned wich you cant count and this number is rising by 100+ everyday. NA has 4648 claned players.

There's prob around 5k players on NA server..

There's only 2 servers so the population def is smaller than most mmo's.. but it's spread amongst 2 servers not 20+. So the game world is VERY populated.

There has been more people every time I check recently. As of right now, I can happily say that the population is booming. At least 3k on each server. Without the population changing, it will seem like it is decreasing because most people will inevitably leave the safe zones to live in a player city.

Peak steam players online 200. {LINK REMOVED}
Covert AHhps Apr 26, 2013 @ 7:20pm
^^^ not accurate at this point.

Most players haven't linked their steam account yet and many never will.
buttrake Apr 26, 2013 @ 7:36pm
most players aren't on steam. there are a lot of people on right now

Just look at steamcharts and assume if it only does this well on steam and has 1 other avenue to buy it with an extra period of time passed if it is high enough for your liking. Assuming a population drop after the first month is up also.

As you can see people are quoting like a total number of accounts in clans(Not including duplicate players) at a little less then 5k not including inactives with probably 10-20% on at any time.

i dont play mmorpgs though steam, ill buy them on steam though.

just figure using the steam launcher for a mmorpg is a recipe for adding a layer of possible issues to an already issue proned genere of games.

i like the publishers launcher typically.

if theres a way to link the steam account for statistics i would probably link several games, but only if i could play without using the steam launcher.

Oh and the game is decently packed right now, not crowded like a AAA themepark mmorpg, but for an indy sandbox, the numbers in game are looking real good.

Rule of thumb is wait 2-3 months to get a accurate count ,Playerbases drop sharply after that peroid .

Thats why the first 2-3 months are almost always worth playing in this type of game.

: )

This is the problem a game like Darkfall faces. It needs a large population for the game world to be vibrant and exciting. More so than in other mmorpgs. If the population ever gets relatively low and a new player checks out the game, they may not be all that impressed and may not stick around. But if a new player checks out the game when theres lots of people, maybe witnesses a battle, they'd think wow this is pretty cool.

This is why i think they should consider an alternate subscription model to encourage player retention such as the declining subscription i've mentioned in other posts.

95% of the population uses the normal launcher, not Steam. The game is packed.
