frustrating. The auto-firing and delayed timing allows for some amusing stairs mechanics, but the vast majority of the ones we place don't benefit from that.
I don't know if it is possible but having it trigger when Orc is enters within X range (as if it were an autoballista) would help. With a high enough range you could still do tricks with stairs and the orcs coming into the range at different times would force them to stagger.
Maybe in addition to giving it a random delay make it possible for it to switch modes? as in hover over the trap and press X button to make it switch between firing as soon as it's ready or firing if an enemy is within range, that way everyone's happy, though I don't know if the game engine would allow such an interaction.
I can see morning star being a lot of fun too if it just fired all the time.
