OMDU feels floaty and cheap somehow, even compared with OMD 1/2. Movement is weird, traps don't feel impactful. Only thing it has going for it is that it runs great.
Yes it's due to it's age in a way, but also everything just feels wrong to me.
OMDD needs work, sure, and it's a bit of a mystery why they didn't just go early access because it's clearly not finished or balanced / thought out properly, but I super don't get why OMDU is apparently so beloved
Seems like the MOBA thing not working out and then trying to use that framework for OMD shenanigans wasn't such a great idea.
But like I said, just my opinion.
Unchained was a proper 4 player multiplayer team / coop experience, I joined a game every evening and it never got boring or samey, it was very addictive and most importantly top notch fun and gaming excitement. They should have at least tried a subscription model, I would have happily opted in providing it wasn't unreasonable but no robot entertainment being robot entertainment just gave up and closed it down. This company seems plagued with making continual bad business/design decisions.
OMD2 was peak, but I really enjoyed OMDU, lots of build variety, lots of maps.
Franchise has been pretty sharply downhill from there. 3 was really limp and obnoxious compared to 2/U.
Keeping on eye on 4 but probably skipping it due to how the maps are, and that there looks to be too many tangential design goals going on with it.
If you have a TD itch, I'd recommend No Creeps Were Harmed. Dumb name, but dev has seriously over delivered on it, and brought some cool ideas to the genre.
Drydock is fine, I've never had big problems there. One of the rift locations is better than the others, but they're all totally doable.
Try the Steam forums for Unchained; I don't know what link you used, but I just joined their Discord for the first time the other day.
Hard pass.
I don’t understand Coliseum lol. There is absolutely zero love put into that maps design. I skip it every time unless I have Double Wide barricades, and even then, it’s the exact same pathing over and over.
I can look past a lot of the community’s map criticism but this map is just so out of place and needs an overhaul.
