Best traps to deal with flyers?
Flyers are driving me nuts. They keep touching my rift if I look away for a second.

Auto Ballista, Steam Vents, and Wall Scorcher, there are some others, but these are my main set for flyers.
I thought wall scorchers had a reduced effect on flyers. Because they are fire based and the flyers are fire based.
Steam Vents are more consistent than both Auto Crossbow(even with the 'Only Target Fliers' thread) and Ice Lance. On maps like Coliseum and Patio Gardens, you pretty much have to use Steam Vents, because of the open sky over the rift and the lack of roof space for ballistas.

I often experience that both ballistas does the shooting animation (mostly Auto Crossbow), but the projectile doesn't come out. I've not seen anyone talk about it on the discussions, so that might just be a me problem idk.

I’ve seen them do the animation, and the projectile come out, but the animation of the crossbow itself is facing a completely different direction when it shoots. I haven’t come across them not showing the projectile though.

The haymaker is also pretty good for taking out flyers. Assuming the path they are coming through has a few low ceilings to place them. If you can get the 4x damage thread they do an even better job. Doesn't work for all maps but its a pretty decent trap.

Pretty much everyone uses steam vents to deal with flyers, auto balistas arent reliable because they are the equivalent of Archers in preveious OMD games, and Archers are nototious for having a terrible IA and lots of bugs, especially in OMD3 Endless Mode where Achers simply stops doing anything in later waves (something like Wave 20 or Wave 30)
they just need remove flyers from the game. I think most players have been asking for that since OMD1. This could be one of the major reasons why OMDU is a fan favorite to this day.
Steam vents work the best in the proper spot. Ballista work but only if your layout is good enough. For my layout I don't let any orcs get close enough to the rift for my Ballista to see them, the Ballista I use always get the job done on small flyers. Depends how many Ballista I have when Cyclops are involved.

But tbh I hit a lot of Combos and have so much extra Coin that I just slap 50+ Ballista / Ice Arrows around the RIft around wave 3-4.

It's not perfect but it Does work, and I play Kalos.

No thank you. If there were no flyers I'd never have to get involved in fighting at all, because it's way too easy to make perfect killboxes that never leak.

To actually answer the OP's question: Steam vents, combined with a ceiling trap of some kind. If you get the thread that lets you place the vents on walls, you can create some really nasty anti-flyer zones with the vents on the floor and walls, and a fast ceiling trap like lasers or pounders on top.

The Hell Bats arn't the only flyers... I am also not sure that they actually resist fire, but I could be wrong, info is still pretty limited, just more reason that a enemy encyclopedia would be great.

I don't mind to run around for fliers now an then but they're really not highlighted enough, they are small on the map and are often hard to see when defending close to the rift. They should also be shown in the pre-wave view so I could place the traps more effectively.

I do miss the archers as well.
