Game won't run, only get black screen.

Load game, intro logos appear, then get a black screen (no sound from the game). Running WinXP w/ ATi HD6700 gfx card.
Have tried the fixes listed here but still same result. :'(

I have nearly same problem, (but I get sound over the onboard soundcard) and I think this is not the problem in the sticky thread which is about half black screen. When I klick wild with the mouse sometimes there comes text on the screen which is maybe some kind of tutorial (saying something about Dirk and a bridge) but I can´t see anything because the whole screen is completely black. Sometimes I see Dirk very cloudy, like a ghost over the whole black screen. Maybe it´s some kind of wrong gamma setting the game uses, but I don´t know how to change it. Buyed the game yesterday...

OS: Win 8.1 Pro x64 + all Updates, newest Steam update from today, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon 6870 + Catalyst 13.9, AMD Phenom II X6 1090T

edit: Just discovered this also happens in Dragon´s Lair 2 and Space Ace - haven´t had any problems with all my other games before.

edit2: Also I checked for the update KB2803821 named in the sticky thread (half black screen)- I don´t have this update installed or it is not displayed under installed updates. I think that could be because it´s an update for WMP 11 and in Win8 there´s WMP 12.

edit3: The problem isn´t any codec - I can play the video files located in game folder sepratly with no problems.

Tried it on another PC. Still didn't work (Dual core AMD w/ nVidia 610 running Win7 64bit), got the "black screen with audio" problem but non of the fixes/work-arounds worked. Did notice an error window popping up though. Error displayed as "GetVideoSize Failed (HRESULT=0x80004002)". PC has only ever had a single display (plugged into HDMI).

This game is obviously broken, and still no sign of a fix (or help for that matter).

Same here, didn´t manage to get Dragon´s Lair 1+2 or Space Ace to Work, not under Win 8.1 . I sent the support an E-Mail in the hope of an qualified answer. Maybe there is a way to get the money back from Steam for these games?!

The way Steam's ToS is makes it very difficult. I'm in AU where the law is you can get a replacement or refund when something doesn't work, but Steam is run by a US company, so who knows.

Clean install of WinXP & now it works :/ (for now anyway), stuttering audio tho'.

It obviously is the game seeing as every other application or video I play works, this game does not.
