Unlike the previous version, this is correctly going full-screen (no window) at startup.
The "no cabinet" presentation runs the video letterboxed at not-quite-1920 x 1080 res. The registry entries seem to indicate it's running in 1024 x 768. And that seems correct to me, as far as the amount of screen the image takes up on my 1920 x 1080 display. It appears to have scanlines - or perhaps it's slightly distorted due to upscaling, depending upon the native res of the movie files - though that makes some sense to me if it's done to intentionaly evoke 1980's CRTs.
The "cabinet" presentation overlays a mock up of a DL arcade cabinet. The video image is, of course, still in 4:3 format but smaller to fit in the "cabinet window". Maybe that might be upscaled some - the size of the "cabinet window" increased - but my very limited so far playtime didn't seem to be completely troubled by it.
I do think I prefer the "no cabinet" presentation, though that might be simply because I'd just rather have the physical cabinet. Or maybe the "cabinet" has things displayed that draw my eye because they're somewhere I wouldn't expect to see them if I were playing a real cabinet, where they'd be below my eyeline on a real cabinet. I'm not sure about that. I think maybe just a scalable cabinet might work. Perhaps two or three variants of a "displayed video is X x Y res" sort of thing? I don't know. That might be far too much trouble for too little reward.
The Steam Overlay doesn't appear to be working correctly. I've confirmed that Steam, itself, has the Overlay enabled and also that the DL program, itself, has it enabled. And it is working, currently, with multiple other games I have installed currently. I'm unable to call up the Overlay during gameplay and it's not allowing for in-game screenshots to be taken. That's the biggest reason I don't have screenshots yet. I can work around it, but, since that's a reportable issue, I figure I'd mention it too.
Do you mean the movement guide? That can be disabled in options when you start the game. If you're referring to the screen flash that tells you where the action might lead...it's been a LONG time since I was a wee lad playing this in the arcade, but I'm pretty sure that's part of the original game, itself. I could be wrong about that, though.
Aside: I just started my copy of Terraria to verify that my Overlay is working correctly. It is. I was able to take screencaps through Steam. I'm not sure if y'all are looking to use Steam Overlay or not with DL, but it doesn't appear to be working at this time.
Anyway.
Here[imgur.com] are images of the Main Screen, the opening movie without the "Cabinet" display, and the opening movie with the "Cabinet" display.
Now that I've been able to compare images with and without the "Cabinet", it occurs to me that the "Cabinet" is cropping the sides of the movies off. That's definately not a good thing, and also makes me realize I was wrong in my earlier assumption that the playback on the "Cabinet" was formatted to 4:3 since the cropping means it couldn't be.
Now...it has been an awfully long while since I last had this game in front of me (I was six when it came out originally), so it's also been a while since I played it well enough to get farther into it.
But...did this get tested enough so that we know for sure nothing important is being cropped off the sides on the "Cabinet" play? That could be bad, if not. You may wish to consider reformatting the video play so that it's formatted correctly for this, or just widen the "screen" so that it's not cropping the sides artificially. The latter is probably the simpler solution.
Also the Bat level, you can push left even if it asks you to push up when you jumnp over the missing steps.
Notice now when playing there is a big black box and huge black bars on the screen in full screen. How can we get the game full screen with the arcade cabinet look?
Love the update and the extras menu is AWESOME! Most games just chuck it in a folder and we forget about it, having it accessible in game is great!!!
Love the arcade cabinet idea, is it possible to say its so awesome would love if the joystick and buttons could mimic our movements!
I'm pretty sure the original game (monitor on top of cabinet) which I finished in front of an audience no less at a mall had a few instances of alternate valid presses.
I hope this could be better optimized with full screen support.
Extras - Watch Game - Play All.
It doesn't start at the drawbridge where Dirk actually enters the castle anymore ?
Instead now it just starts in Yellow Room. (My 4 year old picked this up right away!)
Still, I'm glad to see this game is getting some love and I too hope the other issues mentioned above are addressed. Thanks.
Thank You
