The HP cost is also current HP, so you can't use it at high HP and expect to get an even return. Ragna has potentials that increase healing received at low HP, or make his skills cost less or deal more damage, so take those and use his skills when at 50% HP or lower to get the most out of them.
Ultimately, his skills are high risk but can bring you back from the brink of death if you use them effectively.
- His damage is increased the lower his health is
- Using his skill costs hp, but also restores it (as long as you make contact with at least 1 enemy)
- The lower his hp is the greater his damage and the hp restore reward for using the skill
Doesn't matter if it is a killing blow or not. He's a little risky to play, you want to keep him below full hp to get his damage up and use your skill whenever he's getting too low to restore. If you try and restore health when his health is high you're going to get less than you expended. There's a sweet spot. He can get away with significantly less health restoring items than other characters, because of this.
I *think* if you hit several enemies with carnage scissors you get a bigger hp reward, but I'm not sure. If someone knows the answer please share <3
I think he has a universal potential that makes all hp reducing moves cost less hp which would help somewhat.
Anecdotally after enough runs I've found I can ride him all the way to the final area without touching his health potions (? potions doesn't feel right).
I've mostly figured out how to play as him. Just wasn't understanding the return for carnage scissors. The down + Y move with the scythe (can't remember the name) that seems to be biggest help in getting HP back up.
