Scheduled Transactions and Monthly Income
Hey there.

I've just started to make a serious attempt at setting up a budget and i think i've gotten to grips with the majority of the programs features but there is one thing that has me stumped (and probably has a really obvious and simple solution heh).

I get paid towards the end of every month as opposed to at the beginning.

I've started off the Budget with £500 in the account. I've budgeted for £800 worth of expenditure for this month. The majority of these expenses happen in January (on the 28th) but after i get paid £1000 on the £17th. I've budgetted for all of my expenses in the budget screen and added 'scheduled transactions' for them in the account screen.

The problem im having is that the scheduled transactions that show my wages going into my account (listed under January Income' for category) arent showing in my budget screen. The result, i show as £300 over budget. The recuring scheduled income isnt showing in any of the future months of the budget screen either.

How do i get the budget screen to take into account money being added into the account in the near future the same way it takes into account money being taken out? After all thats what a budget is hehe.

Thanks in advance :)

YNAB is a zero-based budget system, very much like the envelope system some people use with actual real envelopes. It doesn't handle money that you don't have yet well, and it's designed that way.
Here's a good overview of our thinking: http://www.youneedabudget.com/blog/2013/keep-monopoly-money-out-of-your-budget/

I'd highly recommend checking out our free classes, the teachers are awesome at explaining how the whole method works (there's offline recordings too, but you can't ask questions in a recording ;)): http://ynab.me/freeclass
So... i can budget for Expenses that havent come up yet but cant take into account income that hasn't been deposited yet? Im confused, but then it is 5am lol. I'll definetly check out the classes, thank you :)
After my payday on the 17th i imagine my budget will look alot healthier but at the moment im in the red majorly because its assuming im quitting work tomorrow (lol... if wishing made it so eh?). No income is showing up at all on the budget screen except for the original amount i set as in my account. Its a shame because i was hoping to see a rough projection based on my income/outgoings respective to the budget ive set for the next few months (i.e. if i stuck to the budget religiously, where can i expect my finances to be in 3 months).

^thats what i had problems with in the demo if i find a solution to that im sold
You and I need to work towards realizing Rule #4 - Live on last months income.
Indeed heh. I suppose its actually a good thing that you cant 'budget in advance' with money that isnt actually in your account though. I just hate starting a new budget and seeing myself £2000+ in the red 5 months down the line when i know that isnt the reality!
Agreed, it would be nice to see the "bigger picture" and forcast several months ahead what you will have. This program requires a different way of thinking. Not saying it's better or worse at all, it's just different. I guess I'll have to revert back to my excel spreadsheet get the ballpark picture of my money.
I was having same issue. Instead of posting my income as a Scheduled transaction. I posted my Income as a Transaction with a future date.. I won't check the "Cleared" button until I actually get paid.
