Currently, different NPCs have different personalities, which currently means they like/dislike different conversational topics; I suspect this might affect what activities they are willing to join you in, once that system is in place.
The narrator in the trailer literally says that we can recruit npcs to work on our farms so why would they say this and not implementing the feature ingame ?
Hm. I don't recall seeing hiring employees on the roadmap, but maybe I missed it or it is planned but wasn't explicitly mentioned. I guess we'll see what gets added.
This is the full release of the game right?
The game doesn't officially have an Early Access phase, so technically yes, but there are major mechanics that are being added in planned updates, see the roadmap. So functionally it's similar to an Early Access title.
Can't see hiring townfolk to work on your farm anywhere though?
Would be great to get a response from a dev, it's looking like they cut this feature?
The companion feature is not implemented yet, the roadmap is not up to date.
As for the hiring feature, I've asked directly on their discord but they ignored my question sadly
Farming and doing quests I guess
It's intended to be a bit of everything, but both are largely optional if you prefer to focus on one or the other. You can run away from combat encounters if you don't want to deal with them, or alternately you can just buy most things, so you could focus on looting enemies and selling their stuff for cash. Or you could mine ores and craft metalworks like swords to sell. Or once you have materials for a brewing barrel, you can forage for honey and brew mead to sell. And so forth.
