Better than Ultramon?
Hey, I've been using Ultramon for a few years now, is this any better? It seems really expensive for a program that does the same thing as most freeware programs can do. Is there something in this software that would be better?

UltraMon seems to be the exact same application and a much smoother ride from what it sounds like. It's also still being updated. Not sure if the people saying "It hasn't been updated" had their auto updates turned off or something. Their last update was December 2012. No need to constantly update something that isn't broken ;)

i was an ultramon user back in the day. i switched to displayfusion about 2 years ago and liked it so much i bought pro. worth every penny. i couldn't imagine using two monitors without this thing.

I've been using DF for awhile on my home computer and last year I got it for our duel monitor set ups in my office when we decided not to pay again for UltraMon (only get 1 major update vs. lifetime with DF). Almost immediately I started having some issues with my machine's setup conflicting with DF that the system admin couldn't figure out so he put a ticket in to DF. It was answered within a very reasonable time and within a few days the problem was solved.

And, I'll admit...I'm addicted to the feature that allows you to tell which monitor you want a program to start on (I know ultramon did it, but I never started using that feature until I got DF at work).

All I want to know is, and I will buy this program solely for this single feature, can it lock fullscreen applications to an artifical window? I want to run fullscreen apps on one monitor and have my desktop on the other - similar to how fullscreen windowed mode "works", but I want true fullscreen.

I've been using Display Fusion for a little over two years now, and have been quite happy with it. While the price tag may seem a bit high, it actually does quite a bit, has a clean and intuitive interface, and is worth the money if you intend on using many of its key features.

When I was first looking for this software, I was also looking at programs such as Ultramon, but ultimately decided on Display Fusion since it seemed to have more development activity, a cleaner interface, and more features.

Of course, if you're just looking to have different backgrounds on each monitor, then this is probably not the type of software you should be looking into. However in my situation, I've gotten a lot of use out of the multi monitor taskbars, custom taskbar buttons, keyboard shortcuts for window management, window snapping, and desktop icon profiles. The support is also very responsive and helpful whenever I had any questions. If you are a power user that will make use of the key features of the software, then it's definitely worth the price tag. I can easily say that in my 2+ years of using Display Fusion, I haven't had any buyer's remorse.

Why I see that it's only the "free" version of your software that has limited features? What I mean is that I know why "free" software would be limited, but according to the page you list, all the other versions have everything supported, there is no difference between
Pro standard,
Pro licensed
Pro enterprise

etc., they all show green check mark for every feature listed, only the free version shows the red x button for most of the features.

All other versions have every item listed with a green checkmark so which to buy? The least expensive I think?

Displayfusion is a resource hogging, bloated & mediore piece of software. The only things it offers over Ultramon that I'd want are the option to change Windows' lock screen, and the ability to "snap to" (edges of the screen and/or other windows) when holding a hotkey modifier.

Displayfusion takes forever to start and a long time to show up when opening the settings/switching between settings screens. Takes a long time to apply anything in general, too (ie, switching wallpaper sets - you hit the hotkey and it sits around for 3-5 seconds doing nothing, then finally after you've hit the key again thinking it didn't work, it changes, then changes again).

PS: I'm using a Vertex 4 SSD as my OS drive and Displayfusion installed to that drive. It's not HDD based slowness. It's bad code.

So i see different oppinions here, some say DF is better some say UltraMon is better.

I've been using UltraMon for year (since it came out) and bought it right away since Windows was kind of sloppy when i came to multiple monitor management.

Sofar i've been pleased with UltraMon it does what i want it to and it's light on resources (not that it matters much now).

I have 4 Monitors attached now (1 for music/watching cpu/gpu temps/Mem load etc.
Rest for VM's/Browsing and stuff.

Does this program require an active internet connection on the machines it'se used on?

I've actually switched from UltraMon to Actual Multiple Monitors and It's so much better, so much more features included and seems to have less bugs than Ultramon, although I am only using 3 monitors with it.

No. It requires an Internet connection to install it via Steam, after that it doesn't need the Steam client at all.
