My spouse and our two friends play together as a 4-person group. Leaving someone out feels bad, which is why 3-player only is disappointing.
We do have some other friends who are online irregularly, so we're looking forward to killing floor 3 as well (6-player co-op).
So, yes, 3-player feels bad
Maybe also tell them how to design their maps, weapons and enemy types.
You know what? How about you create your own game that fits your standards and show the devs how it should be done. That will make them think twice next time to make a game that doesn't suit you!
4 players was the optimal number for multiplayer co-op for so long, and then around the time of Hunt: Showdown 3 player co-op started being the fad. It's been the dealbreaker for many games in my group.
It's just weird to skip out on a game for that reason alone since you don't need to play with every person you know. 4 people isn't even enough if I wanted everyone I wanted to play with in many games.
At least in my case I'll always end up leaving people behind and we end up just switching up groups or play later.
Overall I just found it a weird concept of pick and choosing.
You're a busy working adult with a family who's friends with other busy adults with families. All of you have extremely limited free time to socialize and play together. Oh, here's a new game that you can play together... No... wait... someone will have to sit this one out.
Feels kinda bad, doesn't it?
What about a group of friends that are 5 in total. Should they increase the size to 5 then? What about 6 next? This can go on and with every additional player the game might change a lot. This can affect balancing and the whole game dynamic.
The devs probably have a clear vision of their game and I'm sure they thought about the squad size a lot, since for most games 4 is probably the current standard. But they decided that it's best to have 3 at most and everyone should respect that.
Then there is also the other side, where people ask if this can be played solo or with two player. Everyone has their own preference and while there are ways to down- and upscale gameplay for a specific player count, it might get to a point where it stops being fun because enemies become bullet sponges, or the amount of enemies on the screen is overwhelming.
Now they've decreased it (which is worse than increasing it) and it makes things difficult.
Making it sound like you can never play with them or something. Sure it sucks initially but like I said you can literally do trade offs and switch up the groupings.
This is literally the pure definition of a non issue.
Also just side note for the generalization of this topic, games limit player counts for various reasons which can range from the engine to balancing or just good base it on player analytics.
Don't get me wrong, this game still looks dope but 4 would fit a lot better when so many couple play in pairs (for instance). It's a super common thing as you grow up and get lives.
4 player co op is the industry norm for a reason.
I don't know man dude made it sound like he couldn't play with his friends at all. Like its either we all play then and now or never again.
That's the big issue with this thread. Sure it would be nice to play with as many people as I like. But there are reasons for the devs to limit it to a certain amount and for this game it is 3. People have to accept that and get over the attitude to condemn a game if it doesn't fit their likings.
The title of this topic is "4-player co-op is a must".
No it isn't, stop being entitled.
4-player co-op would be nice, but I'm sure I can also enjoy the game as a 3-player game.
