FBC: Firebreak Frequently Asked Questions (April 2025)
Welcome to Firebreak,

This is the main FBC: Firebreak FAQ thread, which will answer the most popular community questions. Here is where we are at the moment.

Updated for April 2025.

When will FBC: Firebreak be available?

The game is going to be released on June 17.

Is FBC: Firebreak a digital-only release?

As an online coop shooter, yes, it is.

Is this a free-to-play game?

No.

You need to purchase the base game to play. Standard Edition is $39.99 / €39.99 / £32.99.

Will there be a Deluxe Edition?

Yes! Launching alongside the standard edition of the game, the FBC: Firebreak Deluxe Edition includes a collection of exclusive cosmetic items and premium voice packs.

It will be available at launch for $49.99 / €49.99 / £39.99, with an upgrade option for standard edition owners at $10.00 / €10.00 / £7.00.

Note that as there are no pre-orders for the game, you cannot see the Deluxe Edition in the store until the launch day.

What does the Deluxe Edition include?

You can read about the contents here.

Is the pricing universal or will it be adjusted for my country?

Yes, regional pricing will be available.

Is there a PVP mode?

No, FBC: Firebreak is a cooperative PVE game.

Will there be cross-play between consoles and PC?

FBC: Firebreak will support cross-play with cross-platform matchmaking.

Can I play the game offline by myself? Is there a single player mode?

There is no offline mode. This game will always be more fun with three people. You can matchmake solo, but it is going to be extremely difficult to complete missions like that. Still, every objective and feature has been designed to be achievable alone. Difficulty and objective requirements and rewards will scale with player count.

There are no bots or drones.

Does FBC: Firebreak continue the story of Control?

The game takes place in the Oldest House in the world of Control. It shows what happened to the Federal Bureau of Control’s headquarters (The Oldest House) after the events of Control.

Do I need any prior experience of Control to play FBC: Firebreak?

No, you do not…but you could go buy that game right here on Steam 😉.

Who do you play as in the game?

You play as Firebreakers, badass first responders who volunteer to brave strange and dangerous emergencies across the Oldest House.

On the books, it's the "Facility and Resource Deployment Services Division's Firebreak Initiative" (or "Firebreak Initiative" for short). But when people refer to it, often it is just "Firebreak" as though it were an organization name.

Why do the characters look like they are from a Mad Max movie?

Because the Oldest House has been shut for six years, supplies are running VERY low. And Firebreak is a new volunteer initiative, so they sort of get the short end of the stick at first, until they prove themselves.

But they’ve made the best of that, modifying and building things off the backs of what they’ve received. This is part of their adaptability. So, when we see “makeshift” equipment for them, that’s Firebreak doing their part in the lockdown and a sign of their amazing innovation, repurposing, and capacity to be agile. NOT a sign of some weird post-apocalyptic fashion show.

Having said that, we love Mad Max here at Remedy.

What game engine does FBC: Firebreak use?

The game uses Remedy’s own Northlight engine and tools.

Will this run on my PC?

If you know Remedy’s games, they tend to look amazing but have high PC requirements. With this game, while the graphics will be great, we want to ensure that more people can play, so we are going to aim for a wider range of PC hardware, including Steam Deck.

We will be releasing the PC min / rec specs in good time prior to launch.

That being said, the game will ship with DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and the entire suite of DLSS 4 technologies. NVIDIA Reflex will also be available at launch in FBC: Firebreak. Full Ray tracing will also be supported.

Post-Launch

We want to make sure our player base stays as unified as possible.

All playable post-launch content that we will release, such as Jobs, will be free for all players.

Two additional Jobs (missions) are planned for 2025 alongside other content, with more coming in 2026.

Will the game have Battle Pass or microtransactions?

To answer that, we need to explain Requisitions.

Requisitions are sets of unlockable equipment and cosmetic items in FBC: Firebreak.

They provide additional content for players to earn through a tiered system, rewarding players with in-game items for playing the game. The unlocking of items isn’t entirely linear; rather, you can choose what you want to unlock once you have acquired a Requisition.

You unlock items in the Requisitions by spending currency known as “Lost Assets” which you can earn and find in Jobs.

Unlike battle passes, Requisitions are permanent (instead of time-limited), so you can purchase and progress through them whenever you want.

In addition, there are Classified Requisitions which are bought with real money. The items contained in Classified Requisitions have no impact on gameplay and are purely cosmetic.

So no, no battle passes or what you would consider ‘traditional microtransactions’, unless you count Classified Requisitions as one.

What kind of cosmetics are there?

The following types of cosmetic items are available both in Requisition and Classified Requisitions.

Armor set
    Armor consists of three items:
  • Helmet
  • Body armor
  • Gloves
Armor is purely cosmetic and does not affect the gameplay.

Sprays
  • Players can have four different sprays equipped and tag environments with them, if they so wish.

Gun Skins
  • Part of a Classified Requisitions. Makes weapons look different.

Premium Voice Packs
  • Each voice pack has original lines of dialogue and not the same dialogue "base game" characters would say only in a different voice.

Will there be any playtests?
Steamdeck support out the gate sounds awesome. Can't wait to see more!
Will there be a demo/trial and what will the micro-transactions be like?
1. can it be played offline?
2. can I play solo?

Please, please say yes to both. Don't be another Redfall.

+1000 for this.
Season pass?
Cosmetic store?
DRM, EPIC service login? third party account?
Buy once free to play forever like left4dead?
Always online like payday 3?
Any single player/ai companions like left4dead?
Will you add voice overs for more languages?
Any chance add split screen co-op in the future?
I see Cross-Play and Cross-Platfrom, but what about Cross-Save?

They sure do not look like 'badass first responders' with a gear that appears to be hastily pieced together from scrap. And wasn't emergencies handled by the security team in FBC?

Didn't Jessie the new director handle all the emergencies in The Oldest House by herself with her almost omnipotent powers towards the end of Control?

To be honest, so far from the description this new game appears to be hardly in line with Control.

+1000 for this.

Would also love this, as I don't tend to play online multiplayer games, but enjoy 'Co-Op' experiences with AI teammates, like in Left 4 Dead or Wolfenstein: Youngblood.
Ohh I wish we could have couch coop, this sounds like it'd be a great party game.

Why do characters look like dirty scoundrels from post apocalyptic survival game, not badass FBC agents?

Various costumes from original Control looks way cooler and plays much more into the mood of "cool looking FBC agent". Like classic office suit, bullet proof vests... police, special forces, SWAT costumes, etc.

I could be completely wrong, but it feels like this was a separate, multiplayer game concept. And then, for whatever reason (marketing?) it was dropped in to the Control world.

Hence, the statements that it's "not Control DLC" and "it's not a sequel to Control", but a weird blend of Control and very un-Control stuff.

The vibe doesn't feel Control at all. It feels more like Deathloop.

But I hope to be proven very wrong.

I just want the ability to play solo.
