Bluescreen at launch
I've tried launching this game 3 times now, and all I get is a BSoD (cmuda.sys) after the tiger screen. Any thoughts on how to fix it?

I get to the point where it says, "Press any key to start," and then it crashes with a Microsoft error report.

This PC is new with no updated drivers to use, so I uninstalled/reinstalled the sound drivers. Now the game will get past the tiger screen, Several times the game froze during the opening scene and the times the game gets past the opening I am unable to move at all. On screen it says "Press or Left stick to move" and nothing happens. Pressed every key on the keyboard, mouse and the controler. Just to be sure I tried other games and they all work fine.
Also checked to see if the download and install of the game was OK and its 100%.

So stuck again. Hoping for a fix soon & Thanks in advance for any help.
PS: dont mess with system drivers if ya dont know what your doing :)

Haven't heard of this specific problem, so it might be new to the Steam build. Sorry :(

Some things to try:

- Run the game in compatibility mode.
- Run the game as administrator.

cmuda.sys is a Creative device driver, so making sure your audio drivers are up to date is definitely something you should check on. You should also do the same for your graphics drivers, though it doesn't sound like that's the issue here.

Do you have more than one audio source on your machine? (i.e., on-board audio + a separate sound card) If you do, you could try changing your audio settings to use the on-board audio instead of your sound card for output (or vice versa).

Please let me know if you figure anything out. Sorry for the difficulties!

I got the same problem. I got Asus sound card and this happens not only in Waking Mars. Sometimes sound crashed in other games but bluscreen is only here.|
Solution is run the game in Windows XP service pack 2 mode

@pst - so compatibility mode did the trick? If anybody else gets to try this, please let me know, thanks!

Compatability mode -XP service pack 2- solved the issue for me as well.

Intro movie plays but then the controls do not work.
Display text says "press or the LEFT STICK to move"
Tried to edit the controls manually but the UserSettings file in SaveData is completely blank... and there is no entry in savedgames in my windows user folder.

@Sleepmonger -- it sounds like somehow UserSettings got corrupt when the game crashed. You can safely delete that file and it will regenerate a new one for you.

Sorry for the mess :(

Sorry for the mess :(

I deleted the game data, redownloaded, and ran in compatability mode from the start, but still had the blank usersettings file.

However, a new one was indeed generated when I deleted the blank one and ran the game... I cant believe I never tried that first. Good Call.

@David Kalina - More than one audio source might have been the trouble I had with the blue screen & un/reinstall happened to set the default source that was needed.

As for not being able to move. Deleted the empty UserSettings file under stamapps>common>Walking Mars>SaveData. Just played a min and its working so far. Can move, access options, keyboard or controler.
Thanks for the help.

XP SP2 compatibility mode fixed things for me.
