review after 100 hours
i really enjoy this game. it checks many of the boxes for things i want, pirate themed, survival, hoard nights every night, bosses and base building. i love it all. i was pretty surprised at how good it all felt for such an early access game too! although there are a lot of bugs and it can feel a bit janky, its definitely worth playing if you havent tried it yet.

so far i played through the entire game on solo, and then again on multiplayer after finding out my solo character cant go to other worlds.

i love seeing so many patches so quickly, and i love knowing that the devs are active here reading and talking to players.

i REALLY love that there is passive leveling for what you do, AND a skill tree.

i will say this is the weirdest pvp i have ever seen in a game, 2 player servers for pvp with no rewards or incentives? lol.

as for things i wish were added/different/broken i have a few suggestions.
1, the farming feels bad. i am not watering crops by hand everyday period. i saw some mention of sprinklers in the patch notes and i am assuming they just are not added yet, i hope they come soon.
2, i am max level and fighting the hoard in melee is impossible because of the lag from getting the xp balls, even though i dont gain or need xp. it is very frustrating.
3, building too big of a hoard base kills all the spawns. which is a major flaw i hope gets fixed since building cool bases is sort of a main feature here. even just making a bunch of the bombs and putting them in front of your base just stops everything from spawning.
4, pathing. i have a bunch of bases i have tried and even with an open gate and a clear path to me most of the monsters just rush my walls.
5, storage has some issues, all the chests have 36 slots yet only the basic ones stack. so all other chests besides the first one are bad. including the fancy ones from the furniture bench.
6, i really wish i could swap weapons or swing/shoot while jumping. this is maybe the only thing that really breaks the flow of combat for me.
7, the mounts dont seem very useful, they dont turn well and dont seem to benefit from speed mods, i think i am faster on foot then on any of the mounts. a tighter turning circle and being more responsive would go a long way for them.

i also have a few questions,
~ is there going to be a skill tree for flails ever?
~ the fairy mentions a place that you can only go to at night, is that in game yet? i have not found it yet. (even with the glider from the tallest peak)
~ i once found a section of ocean that said the kraken lives there and i could not go in, but i went back once i was max level and could not find it. did that get patched out? is there a kraken we can find?
~ is there ever going to be cosmetic items? i want to look like a pirate in end game not an indian.

afterthought, please also make bags on the ground despawn after some time. i killed a billion sharks and the amount of bags from them are crazy.

7. i wish there was an option to toggle mount steering.
instead of A/D to turn (hate it)
let the mount move in the direction my mouse cursor is pointing!!!!!

but i agree, the mounts are not as fast as me running, so i won't be using them (i bought the 20k one first at level 100, so i was fine without a mount)

i'll add that the glider recipe should not require exploration or purchase or reward from some npc you might not meet for ages because... it is an open world, its easy to miss or skip entire biomes as you out-level some area and focus on others for material...

i think a glider recipe should be a reward for surviving a few nights.. i went to level 100 without finding a glider recipe (the one near the ant waterfall side entrance. but i found it on day 1 on my previous mp save, but i just couldn't remember where i found it on my mp when it came time to starting over on sp.. til i was level...

not that i think the glider is very useful. i can just double jump (fairy passive) and fast travel... and there is that fancy storage chests that lets you craft from it. (which i also only found at level 100 also. RIP)

i'd rather horde night have reduced "simultaneous" spawns, and not-instant respawns..

killing 1500 zombies a night is one thing, but the amount that spawn and respawn per second is just bad design / broken.

it is like taking a machete through a jungle but the jungle just respawns after every single swing of the weapon... so you can't clear a path at all. (speaking of melee on horde night) it isn't fun.

this is kind of a big shock, as i played the demo months back and it definitely was not 1500 zombies per night. i'm not sure why the change.
